Getting my dart ready for the drag strip

-
Very nice. Reason I ask is I'm looking to shave some more weight out of my car anywhere I can.

the way i did these on my seats is.........

i made 1/4" aluminum plates that bolt to the bottom of the factory seat with counter sunk allen head bolts. then these brackets bolt to the bottom of the plate. no slider tracks anymore. they mount the seat in the same height as the factory brackets. they are extremely light weight and strong. id do a set for 2 seats for $175 plus shipping. i have never weighted them but my guess is that they are about 3lbs for ea. side.

YOungguns got some skills. Beautiful work.

I don't think I want to give up the slider tracks though.

well i just shelled out a bunch of cash in the last couple weeks. ordered a set of glass bumpers from glass tec. I also ordered front and rear aluminum bumper brackets from member motorhead446. hoping to shave a good 50lbs off the car. I also ordered a 9 1/2" 4500 stall converter from dynamic. I think that will be the last of my parts changes before i get some base line numbers.

UPDATE! Ordered a HDK! gonna be running double adjustable front coilovers and 12.19 wildwood disc brakes

It's going to want more timing. I have never had a big block yet that hasn't liked 38-40 degrees the best.

thanks for the input. i ordered a wide band air/fuel gauge the other day so i will be tuning the carb with that. once i get the carb dialed in i can play with timing and find the sweet spot. i know its going to be a process of setting carb, changing timing and resetting carb but it should be alot of fun. I also ordered a log book so that i can keep track of all my changes and the outcomes. I really wanna learn what does and doesnt work. I dont wanna be one of those guys that just throws expensive parts at the car and wonder why it performs sub-par.

Which wide band did you end up going with?? Where'd you pick it up if you don't me asking? I'm really curious to see what that beast runs. Good luck!

Oh COME ON.....what fun is that??....Just throw more money at it :D:D

On a serious note, yes, having a wide-band is great tool, takes a lot of the guess work out of tuning....but would still recommend doing a baseline jet tune by MPH at the track (jetting up till the MPH falls off, then back it up a step). Then, take the wide-band numbers from the max MPH run and use that as your baseline for an "optimal" race tune.

I think this is some sound advice and will use it in my wideband tuning endeavors.

MORE PARTS SHOWING UP! got my steering rack and mustang II drop spindles today. Should have everything i need when the new HDK shows up.

as for the wide band. here is what i ordered....... I agree with the advice for base line runs and jetting up till mph falls off. I will be doing that for sure. i am very curious what my idle mixture is like. i know that with my over cammed engine it may never run perfect at idle but it would be nice to actually see whats going on.

I had almost bought the AEM unit, but I liked the Innovate unit better (just seemed to have better information about its features) and that's what I ended up with. It shows real time measurements.

how responsive is it? does it show real time measurement? or does it update the reading every few seconds?

Don't know yet....it is still in the box. I just got the car back out for the first time on the weekend.
