Getting very discouraged.

If you want to look at the Howards cams, I suggest going through Competition Products. I believe they are a sister company of Howards and might even be in the same building. I ordered my solid roller from them and had it within a week. That was a couple years ago though. They also gave me a better price than Summit, which makes sense if they are in cahoots with Howards.

Good news. My converter shipped earlier than expected. Will be here tomorrow. As far as cam goes. I had Herbert’s grind me a custom cam. It took 2 weeks to get it. So I’m good. Thank for all the suggestions.

I always wondered about this regrinding old cams, do they reheat treat them? Because if they don't. Which makes me wonder about cam failures, metal or heat treat failure? I have 2 old cam cores, just never threw them away.

Flat tappet cams and some hydraulic rollers are cast iron/steel (I don't know the specific alloy) and thus have same hardness throughout. You can regrind to your heart's content and not have to worry about hardness. Bigger Roller cams are made from a steel alloy (something like 4140?) that is then surface hardened partway into the metal. On these, you need to be careful because if you go too far you can get through the hard layer. I recently had a quote from a grinder and the solid roller I wanted to match my heads was only a bit over .600" lift and his available cores were for bigger lift cams and would go through the hard layer to make something so small, so I couldn't use him.

Sounds good, I had heard re heat treat in re grinding.

Also I've been hearing about a Hughes for transmission parts particularly converters. Are they related to Hughes engine? In other words would I have to put up with Dave at the Hughes transmission business? I see parts for other brands than just Mopar at the transmission place.
no...

call sean at dynamic and see what he can do. Dynamic Converters // Pro-Formance Transmissions

call lenny at ultimate and see what he can do Custom Torque Converters for Drag Racing - Ultimate Converter Concepts

call ptc and see what they can do. Performance Torque Converters

Lenny has been retired for a couple of years now…. he sold the business. Montgomery Ragland, who worked with Lenny, has taken the reins.

After watching a racing friend pull his trans 5 times over PTC issues I’d have a hard time going that direction.

That's a real bummer about PTC. I had a custom 9.5" converter built in 2005 ( jeez.. how the hell did 20 years go by?) And it was perfect.
I just put an order in for a 2600 stall converter for my street car. Now, you have me wondering...

Some years ago, I had PTC repair/rebuild my 8 inch TCI converter. Partially my fault for not asking for a quote in advance, but they charged me more than a new converter would have cost. But the converter did work fine. No complaint, there.

I use Ultimate , they have done 2 of my 8 inch converters and the lock up converter in my D150. a few years ago I sent one of my 8 inch ones to Montgomery for a rebuild , there was a delay and he treated me very well as a result
