Just spent the better part of a weekend searching the interwebs for a part to save $20.00. Yep that's me spending my birthday weekend hunting deals to save a few bucks.

Could be a good idea, or a complete waste of precious time. Depends on how much you actually save.
...of course there is always the opportunity to find other stuff that you want, and might not have been looking for. ;)

* I could for sure think of something better to do on my birthday, but I could also see myself doing the same as you! I hope you at least found something to save money on! lol..

$20 ya got for something else now! BTW you're not cheap, it's called frugal and it's a good thing :)

You actually saved more because you would have to earned about $30.00 to have $20.00 after all the deductions.

Actually ended up even sweeter because I got another $12 bucks off another part I ordered so I'm $32 to the good now.

Daddy always said "Twenty dollars ain't nothing, unless you don't have it"

You may be related to Clarke Howard.

LOL. The thing you need to remember about Clark Howard is that he didn't get rich by thinking up ways to save 20 bucks. He got rich by getting paid to tell everybody ELSE how to save 20 bucks.

Um... I love money. And I'm the cheapest person I know. But I love to spend it where it counts! Time well spent in my opinion.

Being frugal and trying to find the best deal is not the same as cheap. Not sure why people are proud of being cheap. it's an undesirable trait. Try working on a customers car that's cheap." Just hone the block and use the pistons we've got."" let's spend $100 to put a new ring gear and turn a flywheel full of cracks when a new one costs $180." " let's put these exhaust tips on my car I got at autozone."My father was cheap and his kids had nothing to show for it. Ask a waiter how much they like a cheap customer. I think it's embarassing.

I do it too. And when I do my jewish friends ask me if I am sure I am Italian.

Any way to save a $ I am there. I cant do my own labor with my torn rotator cuff. Shop guys I have let me shop for my own parts so I don't get hit with their markup. Needless to say they get beer when my car comes back out.

I shop for not only price but location. I am not only frugal like everyone else I am also impatient and want it now.
So I check their location and see if I can get quicker and take that into account.

Rocky I totally agree. I'm like a caged animal waiting for my wheels and k member right now. I have a thing about paying money out and not having the parts in my hand right away.

Being frugal or being cheap or whatever you want to call it has it's plus sides, but also it's downsides.

Sarah's dad would go to the local u-pull-it and spend hours looking for used parts, spend the time to pull it. Make a day of it. Then, when the used part failed, he'd do it all over again.

I'd buy the part new, get it delivered, and put it on. Done. He used to ask me why I'd spend the $70 dollars for a new brake booster with a lifetime warranty when he only paid $20 for the same booster with a 30 day warranty.

Wow, could it be because by spending the extra money for a new one I wasn't scouring the junkyard for hours looking for one that I trust? And that was more time I had with Sarah?

Might not have seemed like a big deal five years ago, but it's a big deal now.

I can go to work and make more money. It's a never ending cycle to begin with: I earn the money to pay my bills so that the people who work at the utility companies, etc, can earn the money to pay their bills, and on and on and on.

Time I can't get back. There's never a way to earn more, never a way to replace it, never a way to get it back once it's gone.

Spend your money wisely.

Spend your time preciously.

Maybe Sarah's dad really enjoys doing that. I find going to the u-pull-it yards gives me exercise instead of just sitting in front of the computer wasting the day and plus it helps clear my mind. I usually have a buddy that goes with me and the fun we have is precious because it breaks up the same old daily grind. Sometimes we make a real score on some rare parts that are not available from the parts stores. I do it as part of the hobby but if it is for a car I need to drive now I just buy new.

Here here! Something we tend to forget in our busy lives. Being today is my B-day, i'm sure i'll spend some time reflecting on where the last 54yrs went and thinking of trying to make the most out of what's left.
