Going Green.....

-
E85 is neat when set up properly. I wish I had enough E85 stations around me to warrant the switch.

That's how i feel. There are two around me and the supply is not steady. The nearest one seems to be out every time i drive by.

Well..waiting on driveshaft shop to call...was suppose to be done today.....

Also replaced trans cooler today that I broke last week....lol

got new driveshaft yesterday....have not put it in yet...as I am working on the other car...

How hot has the garage been?? From what the local weather folks are saying we have been 20* above normal, which is 65 or so, for this time of the year...

It has been very nice this week in Vegas...thunderstorms most of the week...keeping it cool...highs in high 70s...but suppose to be getting warmer next week...one reason i am trying to get the heavy stuff done this week....

Best of luck..... Wish E85 was here. Even accounting for the difference in consumption.

With two cars running on it...dart and demon...every gallon saves me money compared to the racing gas...

probably will switch that duster over...after we get it running right....some day...lol

and all 3 cars now have new driveshafts..

Got new driveshaft installed and bolted down...put distributor cap on...hooked up wires..

need to get some more type f fluid...only 6 qts at walmart this afternoon

Ok...got the tranny fluid..dumped some into trans......should be ready to start...and go those the gears...

REALITY TEST...OR REALITY SHOW...but since this is nothing but the internet I can post anything i want...LOL

The green mobile fired.....after I moved the distributor 180 degree...farted out the exhaust ...scared me..neighbor in yard want to know if I was alright....

dam...forgot to check trans fluid....and i need to hook up wire on neutral safety switch

Ok...fluid about 1/2 qt low..but rear of car up in air....and i need to climb under car to re-tighten u joints bolts

alright...neutral safety switch hook up....bolts rechecked...

battery charger on car.....Race on Saturday for this Dart.....

Hauling Dart out to track tonight...and parking it. There is another TnT on Saturday afternoon...Tonya want to run that one instead of the Friday night TnT...plus there is bracket races Saturday night and Sunday afternoon....

Strange **** today with E85...car kept falling on it face in 3 rd gear....we lowered the floats...raised the floats...up the jets....lowered the jets...nothing changed.....so i figured either pump or regulator was going south and could not supply the volume...anyway...we decided to go back to the gas 950....so in the process of changing out carbs....we had e85 carb off...and #6 lines were just lying there...Tonya accidentally hit the pump switch...the hose to the rear bowl shot e85 across the car..the front hose dribbled... another guy who just switched to E85 was standing there with me....we both go WTF...

the hose had collapsed inside...luckily a friend had a #6 hose that fit what we needed...the test n tune session was over...asked tonya if she wanted to stay with the E85 or go back to gas....E85..was the call....

putting the jets back in that we started with....1st time trial the car ran 10.76 @ 121.76 in the lousy air ...(5400 ft)...So we are on our way to being GREEN....and it a 3.34 a gallon...more Green stays in my pocket.

stranger **** today....make new fuel line this morning...look at old fuel line..see something in it...slap it on the concrete...some brownish thing come out...no way this could have gotten thru the filter ...pump and regulator...had to come into from fuel line being disconnected from carb while I was letting gas evaporate from lines for a couple of weeks.....a Fuel bug....???

anyway...new fuel line on...like i said...lousy weather...with head wind...Dart run 10.81 @ 121...

next time time..car dies in water box...floods...ok...new line ..maybe small piece of rubber from fitting gets into needle and seat...take car back to pits...take needle and seat out....blow/clean out...empty out fuel bowl...reset float level....car is running fine....head for staging lanes for round one...

again...it does the same ****...I had blown out the new line at home this morning......by playing with pump ..on then off...able to get car to stage...Tonya has a .016 light...but then the car but has to shut off car...down track due to flooding again...carbs uses the Stainless Steel needle and seats...

going to do some serious carb cleaning...

Did you just put the stainless needle and seats in Tony or have they been in a while and just now messed up? Just asking because I bought some, AED brand if I remember right, and the dang things refused to seal. Not a spec of dirt in them and only 7-8 psi on them but nothing I did would stop them from flooding over. I was planning on trying E-85 at the time is why I used them. Gave up and put regular Viton back in and been working fine.

the QFT E85 carb comes with SS needle and seat...

yeah...saw them last night...was looking at all the .150 for alcohol...

probably order a new needle and seat before the next race.....dont know if it is going to be titanium or not...LOL

They are pretty pricey
If they are titanium , I think 17.40 sounds fair to good.
The difference in machining Ti vs. brass makes the price easy to understand.

I should add............Man , I was really hoping to read a " ran like a Thoroughbred " story. It sounds like you are on the trail towards making it work though.
Did you start with new lines ?
Once I get a personal obstacle out of the way , I'll be doing this same dance.
