Good product to remove surface rust

Soak it in vinegar.
 
Por 15 metal prep..... stuff dissolves light rust right before your eyes. Get it on Amazon for less than 40 bucks

We used DX579 at my old shop, muriatic acid. Dilute it down, spray it on and it does a pretty good job! Be sure to wash it off and don't breath it in though.
 
I was hoping for something i could brush on
So brush the vinegar on. If it won't stay, soak a paper towel in white vinegar, put on or wrap your part and then put in a zip loc or wrap in plastic wrap for 12-24 hours. Rinse well, dry, and oil or prime part to keep from flash rusting.
 
For things that can stay soaked for a length of time, Evaporust.
For nooks/crannies and hard to reach spots. This **** works. Spray able gel and takes forever to dry. I suggest not letting it dry on surface. ***** to get off.
I just sprayed this spot now, I'll wipe and get an "after" pic in morning.
