Need some more help, I can't find anyone who sells drums for 8 3/4 rear with 10", 1 7/8" brake shoes. All my local auto parts stores told me that they are not made anymore, I'm not sure if they can be turned anymore. The drums have been re-drilled for 5 x 4 1/2" B.C.

Are these available new from anyone?

It's been five years since I bought new small bolt drums. They came from a specialty parts house here in Fresno. They are a Car Quest parts house, but they also carry other stuff that nobody else does. I don't recall the brand name, but they out of SoCal. I can always check to see if they have any more.

Try this link. I got mine from RockAuto.com Do a part number search for BD60123. They were $50 ea. Here's a couple pics. They fit perfect on my A-body 8 3/4.

Those look correct. The problem with redrilled drums is each time you have to replace them (not very often, but still a potential problem) you have to get the new ones redrilled. You won't find these drums in 4-1/2" pattern off the shelf.

Crap, I never thought of having to redrill. If I do 11" or 10x2 1/2" drums, would that fit the axles or make the wheels stick out farther.

I'm no expert. Shouldn't really make that much difference. You just have to make sure the axles register matches the drum pilot hole.

You can find the 4.5 BC 10 X 2.5 drums and it should work with the correct shoes and backing plate. I believe you need the correct backing plates for the 11" brakes also.

Nope, you can't change the brakes to larger. The centering register for the drums is smaller on the small bolt stuff, plus the flange is closer to the axle housing flange. I have heard that b-body 10x2 brakes might fit, but you've still got the centering register to deal with. In my opinion, that's why it's better to do it right in the first place with all big bolt stuff not redrilled a-body axles.

I don't see where the axles were redrilled, unless they were welded shut, then redrilled. I am not sure how they do this.

Got my drums turned, and ofiicially started the restoration. After I got them turned, I went over them with a wire brush on my drill, cleaned the off with Brakleen, then I shot them with Eastwoods steel grey rust encapsulator. The restoration has begun!
