good street cam for 360 magnum

looking for cam ideas for the following build...early stages of planning so still open to various bolt on combos

gonna build on a stock bottom end...eddy heads, air gap, 670 holley avenger,tti or dougs.

in a 69 dart with 3.55s...904 will get a comlete rebuild and will pick converter accordingly

near daily driver...not looking for anything radical, but would like to have a hot fun to drive car
 
I would recommend staying within 270° - 280° duration. Over 280° duration may be a little much for a daily driver.

A stock 340 cam has 268°/276° duration. You may want to go just a little bit more than that.


Rhoades lifters will help low end also. But there are some here that don't like them. I do and have and they've run great for me.

same duration as the one in the hrm build...but it may be a bit much...no two opinions of "streetable" are the same if you know what I mean

I would go with the second one if you want more of a smooth daily driver. The first cam is a bit big.

I would also recommend the stock hydraulic roller replacement rhoades lifter part # 1068 will give you a smoother idle, higher idle vacuum, and better off idle performance.
 
Love the smaller one,with the 3.55 gears. Check out Lx guys posts,in the search feature.I would double check the out of the box valve spring pressure,on the Edelbrocks. A good check out and valvejob/assembly would do wonders for longevity.
 
Had mine reground with Bullet cams 292 @.050 .525 lift 112 LSA.

Gets 18mpg and peels the paint off the road.

this is gonna be my very first build...found a 2003 360 w/only 50K on the bottom end.

gonna get a good camera so I can post pics as I stumble my way through this plenty of laughs and stupid questions to follow.
 
Low compression, even the XR268H would be decent.

Check the for sale section, someone was selling a XR268h IIRC.

thx 4 the tip but I'm in Hawaii and shipping is crazy...gonna go with a local speed shop for most...$300 for an airgap and $800 ea 4 the eddys...not too bad considering no shipping if they come via their stock order every 4-6wks..

since I'm a noob, I really want to avoid mail order tech lines

so would this thing be really sluggish w/o a 2200 stall...willing to spend the money just never ran anything other than a stock converter...assume atrans cooler would be required right?

Yup, if your gonna get a a stall, get a good one. A factory Hi-stall will be just fine with your intended combo.

If you don't already have a converter on hand, just get a good OEM hi-stall and call it. I HIGHLY recommend www.gopnh.com, inexpensive prices, quality product, nice staff.

If I had it to do twice I would go that route.

Its a good combination of low end torque (Which is good for around town) and high end horsepower. That is why i think it is such a nice cam for street and strip use.


It also has a pretty nice lopey idle. I just love it so much. It sounds good.

That's a flat tappet hydraulic cam.


He needs a hydraulic roller cam. (Magnum style)

He would need that grind in a hydraulic roller cam, not flat tappet hydraulic.

There are lots of cam profiles out there that will work, my recommendation is to stay under 280° for a street driver. A cam between 260° and 280° should work for his application.
 
Oh yeah thats true. Im sorry, i wasnt thinking about that. I was just excited to share my expierience with that grind of cam.

I would go with the XR274HR.

I have a 227/231 .530/.530 roller cam in a 9.8:1 340 with 3.23's and a 4-speed and it has very good street manners. Its a sleeper, it doesn't even sound extra mean.

I am selling a 20-810-9($160 plus shipping). It has less than 2000 miles on it. I am building a IHRA Pure Stock and I can't use it. Here is the set up I had it in and it was a GREAT street cam. I have a 77 Dodge Aspen 2dr(3500lbs) 318 stroked to 390, EDDY heads, air gap intake ,650 quick fuel 650 CFM carb. The convertor is 2200 to 2400 stall, 904 trans and Auburn sure grip with 3:55 gears. I keep hearing this is a small cam but it made tons of low end torque and was great to drive. In that set up you hit a gas and no lag, bog just light up the tires. Lumpy idle but not crazy. I had it on a chassis dyno and it made 345 HP at rear wheels which I think is maybe 400+ at the flywheel.

Probably $200 delivered using US postal vs 330+ for a new one.

Valve job,is drive able. I have seen/heard of tight valve stem/valve guide clearance. As long as the springs get near 300-320 lbs at full lift, should be o.k. to 6000-6500.
