Ted Williams, top notch...,
2nd Stan Musial....,
3rd Carl Yazstremski...
I'm a Dodger fan,by the way .......
I love the sport,and it's history......

Baseball eh? It puts me to

I did watch Yaz a few times at Fenway Park in Boston when I was a kid. We made a few trips down there from Maine to watch them. I also fell asleep in the bleachers, lol.

I don't know man. I am a huge Pete Rose fan. One of the best that's ever picked up a bat, IMO. He got a raw *** deal, too. Lots of players have done much worse and still play the game.

Glenn Hubbard
Ron Horner
Dale Murphy
Henry Aaron

Yeah I'm a Braves fan.

Long ball hitter Willie Stargell.. he did'nt just hit home runs, he hit stadium lights and parking lots

I'm a Yankee fan so when I think of a 'Slugger' the first guy that comes to mind is Mickey Mantle. Robinson Cano might have one of purest swings ever, he makes it look so effortless but produces so much power. Kind of like Mariano's pitching, no wasted motion. Reggie Jackson had that swat thing going on.

I agree though, what is your definition of Slugger? Is it straight-up power or someone who hits for average? Typically line drive hitters don't get as much recognition as the home run hitters.

There's a lot of guys in the game now that could qualify - Miguel Cabrera, David Ortiz, Mike Napoli, Mike Trout, Bryce Harper...

Top five though would have to include Henry Aaron, Willy Mays, Williams, DiMaggio and Pete Rose.

There's also Carew, Yaz, Johnny Bench, Willie Stargell and Dave Parker, Frank Robinson, George Brett and on and on.

Here's a list of the 50 greatest sluggers from the Sporting News in descending order. Some odd choices but hard to argue with most.

See what I mean? Major League Baseball craps all over Pete Rose even still. He shouldda been high up in that top 50, but he was left completely out. McGuire and Sosa over Rose? You gotta be kiddin me.

That's a great group, Abodybomber. I can't argue about any of the three.
Like you, I'm also a Dodger fan and enjoy the tradition and history of the game. I never had the chance to see either Ted Williams or Yaz play in person. But as a young kid I did see Stan Musial play at the end of his career.
The greatest pitching matchup I ever saw was Sandy Koufax and Bob Gibson one night at Dodger Stadium. Both Gibson and Don Drysdale had the well-earned reputation of intimidation. I'd love to see them pitch to some of todays players that get angry if any pitch is just a little bit inside.

I'm in complete agreement with this.Pete Rose deserves to be recognized for what he was and that was someone who played the game as hard as he could every game. By the way I can go along with Bombers list.

This, and I'd also like to see the armor batters wear now outlawed. Give them a reason not to stand on top of the plate and wait for the ball to hit them (Shane Victorino).

edit- and yes, the best player ever, Pete Rose, should be in the Hall of Fame.

In general I agree with you. To much armour now-a-days. But Victorino doesn't wear much of it.
