OK on these new style hard chrome rocker shafts, non-bannana grove style on mounting them.

I'm using the iron adjustable 273 style rockers and a solid cam.

Which way do the tiny oiling holes face?

On the origional shafts the bolt holes are larger on the bottom, but these new ones have larger holes on the top and bottom side for mounting.

And the shafts have a notch in each end, they still go in this order correct?

Shafts have a notch on one end. This notch should always be down & towards the rear on the drivers side head, towards the front & down on the passenger side head. So if the notch faces down then the oil holes are down too, and since they are offset they point out toward the exhaust. Seems like maybe this is the way I recall it is suppose to be?

I have read the exact opposite mounting many times. I think it depends on the shafts and oiling holes? But need some expert help here..

Thanks!

The oil holes are always down toward the head. If you see the oil holes when the shafts are mounted then it's wrong. Your putting them on right.

Thanks I thought so.. but then I also noticed the holes are offset and read some people faced them in and I am pretty sure for oil cooling and oiling path they go out and down towards teh exhaust..

again thanks for the 2nd help here!

Dave, quoting mopar book " Note the notch on the end of the hydraulic rocker shaft. It should be pointing to the center line of the engine and toward the front of the engine on the left bank and to rear on the right bank." I thought the left bank would be driver side, can someone correct me. Walt:-({|=

OK I checked and re-checked. Both rocker shafts need the notch pointing to the rear for the oil holes on the bottom of the shafts to be pointing out towards the exhaust.

As long as the little oil holes on the shaft bottoms point out that is correct right? Does anyone else have these newer chrome shafts and some input on this subject.

And for the record I have seen in print that the factory shaft notch points rear on driver side, and I have seen it in print say the opposite too. But I think from the factory with old factory shafts it is front on passenger side, and rear on drivers. All depends on the shafts and holes

OK I dug up an old pair of rocker shafts, one set from a 273, one set from a 318.

When you put the shafts next to each other they are made the same 100%, holes, oil holes, notches etc.

So that being said, when the notch is down the oil holes out toward the exhaust the notch on the passenger side goes to the front o the engine, the driver side notch goes to the rear of the engine facing down too. This gives you the oil holes pointing out on both sides as they are suppose to be.

So for the 3rd time I pulled the new shafts off and put them side by side. and even up against the old shafts, the notches are on opposite ends, so to get the oil holes out to face the exhaust side you will face both shafts with notches down and to the rear of the engine.

So I guess the heck with the notches huh! Just go by the oil holes on new parts...
