I've been told that a Harmonic Balancer for 1966 273 Commando is not the same for later, '67 & up 273's. I was told that the numbers are read from the passenger side but as seen in the photo my timing numbers are facing the driver side. The harmonic balancer itself is located more to the passenger side. Checked Jegs & Summit and they list only '67 & up. Any ideas where to get a new replacement or what years would be interchangeable? My 273 only puts out around 285 - 300hp.

Thanks

I would almost bet that one off a 318,340,or 273.will be the same.not 100% sure but If it were mine I would give it a try...........Artie

I've swapped out all the '69 and earlier balancers without any problems....273, 318, 340. They all have the timing indicator on the passenger side in the same relative spot. You can use the '70-1 balancers too if you're willing to remark the TDC slot on the balancer. The '72-up are the same way but you also have to slot one of the holes in the crank pulley to match the even pattern of the later balancer. If you're building the engine, I'd get it balanced along with all the other recipricating parts.

By timing indicator, are you referring to the black metal tab above the balancer or timing tape? The timing tape actually faces the driver side. Anyone no where I can get a reasonably priced NEW balancer for a cruiser like mine? Jeg's has a MOPAR Performance one for 170 bucks....
