Hey anybody know offhand what the diameter of the snout of a 340 crankshaft is and what the inside diameter of a stock harmonic balancer should be?

I'm getting about 1.517/1.518 on the balancer ID.

and about 1.531" on the OD of the crank nose.

but that's with calipers and with some measurement error...

I just measured 1.527" ID on an original 1968 273 balancer, and 1.529" ID on a new Pioneer stock type balancer. (Used dial calipers; I'd have to re-measure with a different setup to see how accurate that is' let me know.)

I got about 1.533 on my crankshaft with my digital harbor freight calipers. The Summit Racing stock OE harmonic balancer was a few thousands smaller than that. It went on snugly, but not too hard. On hindsight I think I should have put a dab of RTV on the woodruff key before installing it, I think I was getting some oil leakage there on the old one, maybe the new one will be tighter.
