Has anyone shortened an antenna before? Or know where I can get one at a reasonable price? I recently got a carlift to stack my wife's 67 Mustang and my 69 Barracuda. I found a short antenna for the Mustang quickly for $36. The Barracuda seems to be harder to find without forking out a fortune. Unfortunately both have to be shortened due to the garage ceiling height.

Antennas are cut and tuned to the frequency range they're supposed to receive. I don't know if a foot will make a difference because most of the antenna is usually inside the radio.
 
Dales Cuda Shop has both factory A-body styles. One for $30 and one for $24. You could buy one and shorten it yourself. Then you'd still have your original one to put back on if need be.

The 72+ style doesn't telescope. It's just a solid piece of stainless with a ball on the end. That would be the easiest one to modify.

Seriously though, if you shorten the stock one it probably won't work as well beause of what Leadfoot said.
The length in part of the tuning, but I thought the replacement to cut and keep the factory was a good idea.
I picked up an amplified hideaway that goes inside for the car that fender went on.

I used to have a custom van back in the 70's and I found an antenna that mounted on the A Pillar and was telescopic. You may want to try googling antennas and see if they still make them. Let me know if you find them as I would like to put one on my Dart and it won't interfere with my car cover when I cover my car. FYI
 
The mast screws into the base. Why don't you unscrew it then screw it back on when you go to drive the car.
 
i think then correct length for FM is 30 inches but mcodecuda nailed it...remove it until you use it!
 
I have. Knocked that little ball off the end, cut to my desired length. Grind the new end just enough so the little ball could be tapped on. Never had any issue with that one. Not sure on your antenna, but to answer the question ... yes
 
Well I have an antenna that won't stay on the fender of my 66 B-Cuda. So.................I have to remove the fenders to install the inner splash shields( don't ask, but the car came without them), anyway I am going to install a power antenna, so I can then put a cover on it with out the antenna in the way, and no hole in the cover.
maybe 69cudaownr could use a power antenna also.
