I would get some 36 grit sanding rolls and a short and long mandrel and go over the surface of the ports and not remove anymore metal than necessary for changing the texture. It will come out rough but this is what you want.

Thank you very much,I will do that. what is your opinion on those intake gaskets, are they worth it or will they even help ? Please let me know what you think.

This type thing seems to surface about ever 10 or so years. I remember in the mid 70s when they had a carb base gasket with a screen for mileage and power. I not going to say they don't work because I have never tried them. But how well does air flow thru your house with and with out screens on the windows, it flows better without the screens. Logic would seem that the screen slows the airflow and I thought higher velocity airflow is what we wanted because fuel droplets fall out of suspension as velocity slows. BJR Racing am I close or way off base? From what I read you know quite a bit about cylinder heads, flow and velocity.
What are the screens made of poly or some type of metal? What happens if you engine swallows a piece of metal screen.

I used them and have to say they would only be good for a completely stock engine in the low power range turning no RPM's while looking to max out a search for mileage.

BEEN THERE DONE THAT!

My stock 360 sucked in the screens 3 times. Yea, I'm a glouten for punishment. But, I had to know for sure, and now I do, they suck!

Stay away from them. You have been warned.

Thanks for your replies, there is no way i'll put them on.You guys just saved me one big headache. THANKS

340mopar,
Your right on! Velocity is what you want....to a point, there is such a thing as having too much velocity, but from the little guy stand point ( and I don't mean this toward anyone) but most of the people can't get enough to hurt anything without bench porting and knowing. It takes a Dam good porter to do this, and more so how to do it. But yes your right most engines can use all the velocity that they can get.

Like to add that the flow is a wet flow (air/fuel) also. And I believe the screens can cause the fuel to fall out of suspension in the form of fuel droplets as the air/fuel tries to pass thru it. Which could effectively lean out the mix. Good advise from BJR. 'Roughen" the wall surface with a course grit cartridge roll and call it good. Good luck. Terry.

just for my own information , what do you guys think about having the ports glass beaded? that would slightly raise the surface and give it a fairly uniforn rough finish.

IMO, since he allready polished the port, the glass beading will only clean it up and not produce any real ruffing to consider worthy of thought. Glass beeding cleans up metal really good, but changing the surface isn't something it can do for what he wants done or to achieve.

Rumblefish is right. Bead blasting will make it look nice..but won't help you. What BJR recommended. That will help you. Terry.
