I recently decided to replace the headers on my 67 Barracuda. I disconnected the collectors, starter wires and steering linkage. I removed the motor mount bolts on the left side but now here's my nightmare begins. Everything is loose but even raising the left side of the enigne with my engine hoist I can't get enough to clear the back stud on the header. One tube is butted right up against the steering shaft. Anyone got some good advise? The right side looks fairly easy,(if i ever get to that side). By the way it's a 360.

I used a sawzall to remove headers,
that I didn't care about years ago. LOL

Can I relate to this WOW! I just pulled my headers for a blown gasket and missing bolt ,
it was on a duster with power steering. It turned into a 2 weekend job including finding all the parts I replaced since it had to unbolt both motor mounts. jack the motor until it hit the firewall The right side header needs to be unbolted too . Be sure to undo the tranny cooler lines if you have a automatic. I forgot to and broke the radiator fittings ( wacth the distibutor cap). Once the motor was up (both sides) I pushed the motor to the right of the engine compartment, I needed all the room I could get, the header would drop but was pinned by the steering gear so it had to come out also. I replaced the gear while I was at it.
Oh, the drag link had to come out. What a job!!!! I almost considered finding some manifolds but as long as I keep an eye on it check the bolts etc.....It should be ok?@#$%
I don't know how much of this applies to your car but maybe some of it will help.

can you get that stud out? Try heating it up, even with a propane torch and see if it will back out. Then toss it and put a 5/16 header bolt in instead.

Try useing two nuts before you use the heat. Screw them on tighten them against each other and back the stud out useing the nut on the block side. That sawzall sounds like a good idea too...lol :shaking2:
I'm building my next set of headers with a t3 flanges. Nothing like a pair of turbo's. :blob:

I would use bolth the 2 nuts and some heat If you are going to take out the stud, they like to snap off. Just remember that the end studs on the smallblock heads go into water passages.
I vote for the sawzall as well.

The head studs will have to come out in the smaller A body engine compartment. The double nut suggestion I have used with good results.
The E & B body engine compartments are larger and I use the stud to hang the header on.

also try to "tilt" the headers down by letting the colector end of them go down first and then try to move the headers towards the firewal and tilt some more down and then they will slide out easier since you will get more space one you manage to get most of the headerpipes rear of the stearingbox, hard to explain in words...
but like everyne else says that stud will problably need to come out :(
