Hey all, just cranked the 440 for the first time and everything went GREAT!! Except for the passenger header turning slightly gold. Schumacher ceramic coated headers.Roller cam so had it idling and slight revs here and there for 17 minutes. At 11 degrees initial and 36 total. Never got above 190 degrees temp. Oil pressure 40-50.

I’ve honestly never tuned a carb before. Brand new out the box Quick Fuel slayer 750.

Bout to go break the rings in and don’t wanna cook the coating off the headers.

Am I running lean? Wouldn’t it be both side headers turning gold then?

I don`t see any gold, must be right at the port.
With that tight of a bend at the port, I`d expect discoloration.
You ought to do something with those wires on the intake or they`re going to turn a different color too :D

Most ceramic headers have disclaimers saying not to do engine break in with a brand new coated header…

Everything I read said get the engine up to temp then shut her down which I did. I was pretty much at idle then blipping the throttle a bit here and there.

I did put a few more heat cycles on them and there’s a slight gold tint to the passenger header. Not the end of the world I guess.

Thanks for the input all!

Gold=too hot. Either lean or retarded ign or both. I can see a dual plane intake in the pic. That means some cyls will run leaner than others...or richer.
