Headers for 73 Duster with 451

-
The Hedman BB b body headers will fit. Sometimes with no modifications whatsoever.
I did that on my 400 in the ‘71 Duster. It required a couple of dings to clear the steering linkages. EZ-peezee unlike other headers I felt with.

But l’ll never do that again or ever recommend it.

I would. In a minute. SCREW payin 1K for headers. The Hedmans work.

Here is the driver side with the TTI 1 3/4 headers. This is a low deck 512. The headers hang down a bit lower with the low deck, I think these headers might be a perfect fit on a RB block but I never mocked them up. I'm sure there are lots of people who have these headers on RB engines but I haven't seen one in person.

Have fun changing spark plugs (LMAO!) and get a buddy for a starter that is totally captured necessitating lifting the engine and removing the header to replace the starter.

I used the TTI 1 3/4 inch headers with the 512 in my '72 Duster. I think 1 3/4 is big enough for a street car with mufflers. Guess it just depends on your pain vs. reward calculation. You should be able to run 10's with the 1 3/4 headers but if you think you'll be going faster than that then step up to the larger headers. I tried the larger step headers and they were just so big I sold them and went with the 1 3/4 tubes. I can at least work on the car with the smaller tubes. With the big tube headers it was hard to access things.

I had a set of 2" and sold them.... The 1 3/4" is what I have and am getting ready to put a presidential solution on them and use Power steering with them. Why TTI has never addressed a fitment issue with PS is beyond. After seeing a set of 2" on an A Body it's just not something I want to deal with. No room at all.....

BTW I am diggin' the radiator setup you have now and am awaiting your results on cooling....

How bout cutting the flange and making a slip fit tube? Or even two? Necessity is the mother of invention.

Is this true with a dart ? Will Herman B body headers fit a 440 in a 69 dart ? Thanks
That year Dart has the big engine bay I er the earlier models correct, then yes. I used the Hedman B/RB @ 1-3/4 in a ‘71 Duster. You’ll need to clearance around the steering g linkage at the pitman and that other arm the center link connects to.

I used a sawzall to get them out. I won’t be doing that again!

Hi

I would like to know what under chassy headers will fit a 73 duster with a 451 B-engine with TFS heads? I really don't want to cut the car at all to put headers the car is a real clean original car.The car has no P/S and No P/B to worry about. It is getting the spool type mounts as well. I would like at least 1 7/8 and if can put in 2" would be better. Engine right now is in the 650HP range and is going to be driven both on track and street. I keep reading about TTI's some say they fit others say they don't, not sure if Hookers work or Dougs work either. ?? Any B Headers work?
What choices do I have? I seen Schumacher but not keen on Tri Y

Thank you very much

I`d call TTI and talk to them .

They fit in my '72 Dart with a 451 low-deck nicely. Hardly any dings at all. But I really don't see how they'd clear with a 440 which is taller and wider. Maybe if you got creative with the engine position?

All headers for these cars should have seperate tubes and slip on collectors.

If I was stuck and needed to use a TTI or some other header, the FIRST thing I would do is suck it up and purchase slip on collectors. Then I cut the weld on stupid collectors off. Then I'd split the flanges and get the headers on.

It it beyond ignorant to use weld on collectors. Beyond ignorant. Try getting that through the thick heads at TTI.

I did try it, didn't have any notable struggle, and would definitely do it again... for $200 vs. $1k. (Actually I got mine for $100, very lightly used!)
Obviously your experience was different. Please share...

What exact set of headers did u use ? Their are different B body headers. :thankyou:

From post #39: They fit in my '72 Dart with a 451 low-deck nicely.
:poke:

So: B engine, stock exhaust port heads, manual steering, column jacket shortened, mini-starter. Any other combo is unknown but less likely to fit without a lot of reworking tubes... :)

The Hedman’s will not fit with a 440 using Schumacher kit with 68-72 k-member. This was on my 68 dart with auto trans. I was able to get the passenger side on with minimal torsion bar interference but drivers side was a no go. This was with manual steering and the steering shaft collar shortened to fire wall. The torsion bars were also 6 cylinder bars. Hope this helps

Do what I did and patiently wait for a set of TTI's to come up for sale. Think I paid around 600.00 and lightly used. Pick your poison guys. Real estate is limited under the hood on these cars and so are the options....
