So, the VR malfunctioned causing the alternator to burn up it's wire at the bulk head. At the same time the headlight switch had so much corrosion that it would not allow current to the dimmer switch or to the headlights.
The VR was a chinese made one from oreilly's and had maybe 40 miles on it. Junk.
I just grabbed an old one out of a box I had and plugged it in and it works fine Wells, made in USA.
I replaced the headlight switch with a new one, probably chinese made but doesn't say it, from napa. Lights work now, no 20 volts at back of alternator.
Thanks guys for all the talk throughs and thanks for the electrical schematics. Your help was very much appreciated.
Now I just have to find some more parts for this car.
And one of the few pics I have of the car just so yal see what you helped me on.
