Well, I’m about three quarters of the way through putting the new headliner in my dart. I’ve had more fun at the dentist. I ended up putting a couple of 110V space heaters in the car for a few hours and sweating like an Eskimo in Mexico. I’ve taken a break tonight so I don’t tear it out and pain the roof black. Those sail panels are a B&#CH. Viagra couldn’t get the wrinkles out there. My finger tips are just about worn thin as my patience so its time to quit. I’ll be back at it tomorrow and hopefully finished. Then the rest of the interior.

I'm doing the same job as you are on mt 69 Swinger, and having just about as much fun.
It's a real "neck breaker". I still can't get the wrinkles from packaging out of the liner, let alone the sail panels.
Never again.

I had it easy on mine, the original was still in excellent shape and easily fitted back into place .... dont know what you fellas are complaining about, really.... (glad I dodged a bullet on new headliner install)

THAT would be the operative part of that sentence. Pull a new one out of the box, put your old headliner bows in it and give it a whirl. You'll come back singing a new tune in less than half an hour.

Can yall imagine what that job was like on the assembly line ?
I was told that in the factory they started at the back and pinned, glued, tucked all that first section at the sail panels. Then pulled to front and sides so it tightened up like an umbrealla opening.
Heres the thing though, I did it just that way and it still wasn't easy.
Took an entire day but looked great when finished. Neckand back injuries since then wont let me attempt it again.

I had a trim shop put in my headliner. I think it was the best $120 I spent on my car!!! I have watched my neighbor put in a headliner in a 1970 Mustang coupe. He is on his second headliner and the fourth day. ~rant and rave~
That trim shop doing the job is looking like a better decision everytime I read a post like this and hear the frustration in your voices!

There are some jobs better left to the professionals and headliners are one of them. I had the local trim shop do mine. The installer was estatic when i pulled the Duster in, said he owned one new so he was happy to do it. It took him two days, he said most take one day but this one was tough, but it came out great, not one wrinkle and the best $120.00 i ever spent too.

I may still take mine in and have the guru's restretch mine. I spent about 4 hours on mine, had both front and rear glass out and worked my fingers to the point of pain. Could never get my sail panes wrinkle free, tried glue, tucking, etc. just wouldnt look good around the dome lights. I believe there was a cardboard backing in there from the factory, but mine was waisted from years of moisture. And those fold marks are still there after 4 years, never tried a hairdryer but am considering it. That job on the assembly line had the be the "penalty box" after found sleeping in the Imperials..."YOU!!!...4 hours, headliners!!" Oh man....

LOL!!!!!!!! I can relate! I'm going to try and wrestle mine in today, provided the weather holds. I need to lay the new `liner in the sun to soften it up and it looks like rain today....

Not like there nothing else I can do on my car.... :angry7:

I got mine in over the last 4 or 5 days. Working it side to side slowly, waiting for glue to dry etc.
All that is left is the outside (rear window area) of the sail panels.
The ONLY wrinkles in the damned thing are from when it was folded in the package, and I doubt they'll ever come out.
Never again folks.

Anyone wanna buy a still in the box black headliner, rear wires, bows and new clips for a 72 scamp lol. I have been putting this one off for a long time. I think I will sell the soft one just and order one of the hardboard headliners form Dante or someone.

I did mine in the winter. A little each night after work. The biggest problem I came across was the gap between the bows .The new was an inch longer between each one .So I took up all the slack at the rear and worked it fwr did the sides last. Its doable but I rather do a vinyl roof instead to much looking up .Take your time so you dont get angry.
