Have been trying to identify what year car or truck this A904 is out of.

Kind of different with the tall 3 ribs on the tail housing, have not seen that before.

Not sure if it could be A998 or A999.

Lockup or Non-Lockup

Here is a picture of an A904 that I have in my '89 D100 truck, with the weight on the tail.

All I have is a picture. Owner thinks it's a 904, but knows nothing of the condition or what it came out of.

Rebuildable core complete trans.
appears to be 904 with the clipped edge.

999/998's have a reinforcement ribs on the case where the piston well is-- on the other side from where this photo is taken. you can see them in the pic of your truck trans.

wonder if it's AMC?

Here is another veiw from the back, that has different shadows.

That top rib is actually like 1" wide flat.

Here is a picture of an A999 with Tail housing ribs/reinforcement gussets built into the tail housing with *** patterns in it. This on also has the lock up converter plug on the left rear of the center case.

Basic A904 layout.

The trans in question looks like it has the tail shaft housing *** patterns if you look close amongst the grub.

A999 reinforced *** tail housing, and lockup solenoid plug.

Looks extra strong, like a truck transmission.

Could possibly be a A999 or A998 truck transmission?

Thanks for the help so far.

Anyone else know more about what this could be, welcome to share your experiences here.

Thanks

Now by the looks of this chart the A-998 was fitted behind the 318s.

Here's another question: Being my '89 D100 came with a 318 would this make the transmission behind it a A-998 instead of an A-904? I know for a fact it is a non-lockup transmission.

OK here is another picture of the front of transmission in question. Showing it has a neutral balance torque converter so that equates with a 318 and A998 transmission.

If it was a weighted converter, then that would be the match up to the A999 and an external balance 360 engine.

Lockup or Non-Lockup

Late '80s/early 90s 32RH. Basically the final iteration of the A999 after Chrysler started changing the transmission designations. Found in V6 and 318 vans, Dakotas and light-duty pickups (D100/D150).
32RH has the connector for the Tow/Haul override switch, but is otherwise hydraulically controlled lockup like the earlier A999.
Those reinforcing ribs on the tailshaft housing make it a snug fit at the crossmember in '67 and later A bodies, and require significant grinding to fit early A bodies. The snap ring cover on the tailshaft was also moved from the bottom (on most 904s) to the side of the tailshaft, which also can get a little snug to the early A upper crossmember.
Good tranny, though- extra clutches, low first gearset, upsized 3/8 cooling lines among other things.

thank you, thank you for all of that good information.

I have a contact call out to the owner of the transmission to make arrangements to purchase and pick it up.

Below zero here tomorrow (Saturday) so hopefully he will call for Sunday when the temps are back in the 30°s.

Thanks Again

Screw that! I thought you were in Florida now?

Yeah it's always a matter of getting things organized, and getting done what needs to be done for going back and forth from North to South. Being invited to Family parties, older Cousin's 90th Bday party. Thanksgiving, Christmas, dodging the snow storms > getting stuck behind the Winter Wall.

I have seat patterns that I am going to try and sew up a new Factory Duplicate Seat Cover for the '89 Florida truck yet before I leave MN for FL. While here at the MN shop with the sewing machine and large upholstery tables and supplies.

And now yet looking to score a replacement transmission out of the Twin Cities for the '89 FL truck.

It goes on and on and on.... At least not sitting around getting bored.
Warm spot in FL waiting for me when I get there.

Thank You
