I am in the process of building a new 440 for my Dart and would like some advice on what internals to use. I am shooting for a mild weekend driver, occasional trips to the strip. Running through a built 727 and 3.73 gears. Looking for advice on Pistons, head work, cam size and brand and any other pertinant information. Shooting for around 400 hp and don't want to spend a fortune. I appreciate your help and look forward to all suggestions.

I would use the KB pistons as they are less weight, and use a cam in the 230-240@ .050 range hyd., or mech. your preference. As for the heads I would go with something like the 452s as they have hard seats in them from the factory, make sure that they aren't cracked and make sure that you have the right springs for the heads and cam used. Then I would gasket match them and bowl blend them and use stock size valves on the intake and 1.81 on the exhast, but if you do use the larger valves on the exhaust then the seats will have to have hard ones put back in as the cutter that will enlarge the seat will cut all the hardness away. Then I would go for a air gap or a rpm intake as this will give you more bottom end and more torque where you need it, or want it. This could be done for $800-1,000.00 total. Have fun.

Like BJR said its up to you on intakes, and its not hard to get 400hp out of a 440 good luck with the build keep us posted :thumblef:

400 hp is called "stock with a cam"... BJRs plan is perfect. In the NE, you'll spend more than that tho.

We run KB pistons in my sons 400 and they work great. We use the Performer RPM intake as it has the best low end. We tried a Holley Street Dominator and ram 11.59 @ 117 and it has run 11.55 @ 116 with the RPM so it had more mph with the SD but was not as strong in the 1/8. I agree with the heads BJR said also but if you have the money you cant go wrong with the Eddy's as we have bone stock Eddy's on his 400 street car. Good luck , Ron
