the first one is:

case # C99129H
side cover- C956642

tailshaft # 0-99538
SS

length of tranny was around 27" (Im thinking this was a B/E body tranny due to its dual shifter mounting pads- can i use this in my a-body?)

..........1st 1 is 1970 B+E body ........no, u cant use it in an A body cause the shifter will either b under the dash or inbetween the seats........kim......unless u have a bracket fabbed up.......2nd 1 looks 2 b an A body 1......

You and oldkimmer are right on the first one. The second is either an A or F body. Looks like an A body to me. Measure the diameter of the bearing retainer on the input shaft. If it is around 4 1/2 inches, it is for an A body. If it is just a little over 5 inches, it is an OD and came out of a '76 A body or an F body. Also check the shift levers. If they are both pointed up it's an A body. If the front lever is pointed down and the rear one is pointed up, it's an OD.

Hey guys, i figured it all out...the first one is a heavy duty 23 spline as i measured the input bearing retainer and it is 4.8 just like the 18 spline hemi's and 23 spline hd's...i cracked open the case and its mint inside! even though it is a b/e body tranny im going to fab a bracket to use it in the a body...the other one is an overdrive as i checked the ratios on it and measured the input bearing diameter which came in at 5.125 meaning its a 1975 and later OD...to top it off its a steel case OD as well....my dad scored these both for free, so they turned out to be pretty neat deals! Thanks for the help guys, reason i was so adamant was because i had the trannies out in the garage and wanted to figure them out before i put them back, but the bearing retainer did it for me...thanks guys

First trans is out of a 70 B body, most likely a Roadrunner.

hey crackedback, did you figure that from the pad #? i think the ratios for it are as follows per the bbd tech pages
1964 thru 1970 B/RB engine
2.66:1
1.91:1
1.39:1
1:1

Don't use the B-body in an A-body. Just trade it for an A-body. The B-body guys can use this stuff. They will be happy to swap you, and you'll get a much easier install. Did I say MUCH easier install.
Also there was no HD 23 spline. There is a 23 spline, and an OD. Any A-body 4-speed you get will be plenty heavy duty unless you go racing. Then I'd forget the 23 spline and go Hemi.

Those should be the ratios.

Yes I figured out what model it came from based on the 0A number.

Your first tranny is a keeper. This is a 1970 unit built for a lynch road plant car, normally a B body car, most likely a road runner. The 0A157691 is the last digits of the VIN number of which the tranny was removed from. The PP is for a new process tranny,833 for a four speed unit. The 3014 is the day it was built on,Tuesday oct 14 1969,and its a 23 spline unit.
The second unit is a A body O/D unit built in mid dec 1975,and the 333366 is the last 6 digits on the VIN number.if you want to sell the second tranny email me back, mrmopartech

Im going by the tech pages on bigblock dart which say that 23 spline trannies came with a 4.8 input bearing retainer like hemi 18 splines and were thus heavy duty units...thats what the input bearing retainer on the first one i have measured in at (instead of the more common 4.335 i think it is), and its 23 spline so i would assume it is...I have thought about trading for an a-body unit, but im not sure yet what i will do...atleast i know now what it is

thanks for the info mrmopartech...for now im keeping the od, as i think my dad wants to use it in the future for a b-body cruiser car
