seem to have a bad short to tail lights not working no power to rear at all to brake lights or tail lights or turn signals

We need some more info.
Year?
Model?
Have you checked fuses? Turn Signal Switch in Steering Column? and connector at base of column?

Brake and turn are separate until the flasher and brake switch feeds into the column turn signal switch.

Tail lights are separate circuit. So if none of them work (as above) check at the fuse panel, flasher, brake light switch for power as they are easy to access

Make sure the rear harness is actually connected in the left kick panel.

After that, pull rear seat, inspect the harness, and sockets.

Ditto. Remove the left plastic "kick panel" and you will find a ~8 wire connector that feeds the rear light harness. Unplug that and you can probe both sides and find if the problem is in the dash or in the rear. You will need a multimeter, but free w/ coupon at HF.

Could be a bunch of really crappy grounds back there also, since all those things back there use the same grounding points.
