I’m putting a big block 383 in my 1967 barracuda. I am reading that you can use a hemi oil pan with my K frame. My question is since the hemi oil pan is 6 quarts. Will I need to put the skid plate on the bottom of the K frame, since this is a deeper oil pan, then a 5 quart

It wouldn't hurt.
If you're not up to fabbing one yourself, contact U.S. Cartool- they are coming out with a skidplate for A body K frames.

Here is a picture of my set up. Im using a 66-69 hemi oil pan on a 440 with the DC spool type k frame. The bottom of the pan sump is about a 1/2” lower than the bottom of the k frame so I added a reproduction skid plate for safe measure.

The oil pan from a '65 Sprt Fury with a B/RB is identical to the Hemi pan other than it's about 3/4" shorter bottom to rail.

After reading through all of the responses I am going to use the reproduction oil pan for big blocks in A body. I found one on Mancini and 440 source. Thank you everyone for your response. It was very helpful.
