Felt sick to my stomach today. Found out a 1968 426 HEMI 4 speed GTX was sold for amazingly cheap money, and it's only 21 miles from my house. Tried to buy it from the guy before just like everybody else that knew about it. He wouldn't sell it to anybody. It happened about a year and a half ago but I just found out today from a friend of the family. Seems as though the guy had a falling out with his mother and the car had been parked on her property for the last 25 or so years. She was tired of it being there and sold it on him. She had no idea of the value and sold it dirt cheap. No idea of the paperwork involved or what, but just the drivetrain would have been worth a small fortune. 426 HEMI, 4 speed, Dana 60 rear. WOW It was the original owner too. Had been sitting for decades but still. A HEMI car. I'm still in mourning.

I hear ya,that sick feeling will stay with you for ever, you feel violated right in your own back yard..hang on.. I think I'm gonna be sick too...wonder who got it? I think you better look into who got it they may not know its worth either...hope some scrapper didnt get lucky and some mopar guy got it,I'd still want to know it's fate as to where it ended up at...never know....

Blame the guy who wouldn't sell it for all those years and left it at his mothers to rust away not the mother.

You should have made friends with the mother and every once in awhile checked in with her about the car and you could have been the one who got the deal.

The guy that told me about it just happened to be driving by the house when it was leaving and saw it on the trailer. He is a family friend and had also tried to buy it. The only thing he found out was the guy that bought it sold it to somebody else, so it at least didn't go to the scrap yard.

You're right I should have got in tight with the mother no matter what she looked like. LOL.

Happens all the time.
Im sure the buyer feels no pain.
Give it a week.
It will be on the auction site for outrageous $$$$

My friends neighbor sold him a 69 Roadrunner that was sitting in her garage for 30 years as her son moved away and never came home. He finally came home after my friend had the car running and demanded the car back and that his mother had no right to sell it.He won the battle asnd kept the car four about 5 years and then sold it.

Yeah they pulled a Hemi challenger in awesome condition out from the town down the road. And the winged car in darian that somebody probably picked up by now.

Plus there's two 1969 charger r/t's soaking up rust (6 blocks ) down the road from me at a shop called hot cars where the owner is stuck in the early 2005 Mopar sky-rocketing value era/period.-thinks iron oxide is gold. F'n' rumple stilskin mother truckers!

I feel ya bro I feel your pain.

There is a winged car in springfield mo believe its a Superbird-440 car..red/orange on the southwest side kinda rual setting in a garage with crap piled all on it but you can still see the rear and the wing and I know 2 diehard mopar heads thats tried to buy it and the guy wanted like 50k for it so its still there last I heard which was 2 yrs ago....I know of 2 other mopar stories around joplin that would make you cry, there are still cars out there in limbo for sure, you never know how close you may be to one and never ever know it or see it...after the tornado I seen at least 3 other mopar musclecars destroyed and several brand x's that I'd never seen before

Wish I didn't read this. I think I have a tear growing. I would love a HEMI 4 speed B Body!!!

its just one of those strange things that happens in life. if your meant to end up with something there will be a way.

people always say "right time, right place" I agree with that partially.

I believe some cars find the owners, if its going to happen, its going to happen. I never worry about what goes on "out there" because plenty of Badass (excuse the potty mouth) cars have found me. if its going to happen, its just going to happen...if its not meant then its just a pie in the sky.

Seems in my area there are a few owners with a single Hemi. And then there are a couple guys with many hemis.
If you wanted to buy a Hemi you would need to find a single, the guys with many hemis wouldnt sell for a fair price if at all. Id say that's why they have many.
I knew about the Hemi I bought for nearly a decade before the owners interest changed and offered it to me.
He knew what i wanted to do with it and that it was the correct year for my car. He also knew I would appreciate owning his engine more than the guys that had many.
I would go over and see him at least once a year usually about something unrelated but would always bring up the engine when I saw him to see if he still had it or done anything new with it.
He had a plan for the engine and never had any thoughts of selling. Then one day I got the call.
I have looked for a Hemi i could afford for almost 30 years and they were always busted or welded blocks I couldn't feel good about.
I say keep after it, they are out there. Happy hunting.
