hi guys, i need some ideads for a small (i hope) electrical issue. my 69 barracuda notchback interior dome wont shut off.

ive disconnected both door jam switches and removed a brand new headlight switch and the light remains on. any. no other c ideas of what could be feeding the dome light. the car does not have a trunk light, glove box light or a under hood light. it has no other courtesy lights of any kind just the dome light. tkz guys for any ideas
 
So there's an alarm in the mix? That wasn't disclosed initially. Sounds like you need to delve into your installation of that alarm system

the alarm has been in for a while with no issues. this just started the other day. its a viper alarm which r pretty alarms. it also happened during the build of the car before the alarm was installed. right now the car is in my backyard and covered. during the summer id go out to my hot tub and the dome light would be on. id dissconect the battery and it would be good for a couple of days then do it again
 
Time to remove bulb, lens, housing. Undo battery first, remove ds sill plate and lift carpet at sill plate. Wires will run in a channel to front fuseblock.

sill plates r off for other wire runs. will check there for shorts. the overhead dome light plugs into the harness in the trunk that runs through the sill plate on the drivers side. it feeds down from the roof panel down in back of the rear window into that sill panel

ok, whatever.
 
Well you gotta chk the entire length of wire for that circuit. Car is 55+ years old, who knows what's been done to it.

I agree with A56 if your issue just recently started I’m betting an issue with the viper
 
The FIRST thing I would have done was cut loose the alarm. You have a map light? That is tied in as well. Otherwise, a faulty switch or a pinched switch leg wire, which is in the ground side of that circuit

The switch side of the dome light cir is a switch to ground. That means a ground ANYWHERE on that wire will cause the dome light cir to stay on.

Assuming you have had BOTH door switches AND the headlight switch disconnected at the same time AND the light still lights that would indicate a shorted wire somewhere.

Finding the shorted wire will be the hard part.

ya mon, found the short in the roof panel. alls good now
