in the 8 1/4 it uses the axle as the race for the bearing so its common for them to make a grove in the axle when they where out. and the rear end came out of a donor car so i have no idea what they were doing to make it wear uneven.

I think original aar had 355 with 391 as a option.

I was going to suggest the steering box mounts cracking. Mine did that and it was like the front wheels of a grocery cart at 30 mph !CRAZY speed wobbles, like slam on the brakes before your car shakes itself to pieces bad. Good you found it, the Explorer 8.8 uses the axles riding on roller bearings too, strange design if you ask me. Bad bearing, replace the axle! lame.....
