Hi all.
I am building a 340 and want to use the "period correct" version of the LD340 for 1970.

I know there are two different versions of the LD340 floating around - one with and one without the Chrysler part number.

The earliest reference to the LD340 I can find is a Hot Rod article in September 1969 called "Mopar Manipulatin' " where they fit the "new LD340 (made especially for the 340-inch engine)."

Can anyone tell me whether the LD340 as released (ie in 1969) was with or without the Chrysler part number? At which point was the second version made? Were they sold side by side?
thanks

I would think the non Chrysler number was first. It was an Edelbrock intake, not Chrysler. Then, Chrysler picked up on it and offered it as a direct upgrade over the counter at the dealership.

At least that makes sense to me.

I don't know the answer to the question, but I'm also very curious about the answer. I picked up one with the part number at a swap meet this past spring.

Considering the company that made the LD340 is still around, email Edlebrock with your questions and they will tell you the answers. Get the straight goods from the source instead of asking what people "heard" or "read" years ago on the interweb. I emailed Edelbrock last month on some questions similar to yours but on the LD4B and they responded.

What did you find out?

The LD4B was produced from 1967 to 1981 and all of them had the Chrysler part number on them. They were also available to be purchased through Chrysler dealerships during the entire production run.

Definitely not the case. Popular Mechanics had an article on the 1967 Barracuda rally car - it clearly showed a LD4B with no part number. Also check out EBay - LD4Bs with and without the Chrysler part number.

I eailed Edelbrock a few months back. They had no idea about the exact history of an intake that was nearly 50 years old.

Was that their exact response? What question(s) did you ask Edlebrock?

I hear ya... Some had the CHRY and part # on the same line instead of two lines. The production run years was the key info I was after.

I've had two LD4Bs. One with and one without the part number.

How did we go from talking about the LD340 manifold to the LD4B manifold? Did I miss something?

Post 5... used as a reference reminder,of an example ,of an Edelbrock tech line phone call... To the o.p.:witch manifold ,would suit your desires,best?.... I understand, the "day two" resto concept,if that's what you're after....
