I'm having some trouble with an original 1920 on a 225, 64 Valiant Vert. Idles very smooth and light throttle is great. But, any more throttle than just a bip will cause the carb to cut out, stumble or sputter. Just did a quick rebuild, changing out springs and accel. pump, but did not do an overnight soak. Any ideas of the problem. Just did a complete engine rebuild - carb problem was there before. Thanks for the help! Last hurdle to enjoy the new /6!

Check to be sure that the accelerator pump is working.

With the engine off. look down the carb and cycle the linkage. Look for the squirt to verify that it's working.

they make 2 different acc. pumps for them 1 is 3/8" longer and it wont give you the proper squirt , you can bend the linkage a little to help.

Yep, make sure you're getting a steady shot of fuel from the accelerator pump jet -- remove the air cleaner lid and, with the engine off and the choke open, operate the throttle lever while looking down the carb. You should get a steady shot of liquid fuel each and every time you operate the throttle lever. If not, you've got maladjusted and/or missing pieces and/or a problem with the pump diaphragm and/or check balls. Are you sure you didn't leave out the spring that actually drives the accelerator pump? Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads (heavy on the 1920) are posted here for free download.
