Hey Electrical guys, I have a pre-made universal harness for Holley EFI HP that I need to make some changes to....as far as shortening wires and location of connectors.
Any suggestions? I'd like to remove about 1.5 - 2 feet out of it.

Thanks.

John

Do you have any information on the connectors that are used on the harness? Manufacturer and series specifically, that will tell you what pins/sockets you need to order, and how to depin the existing connectors.

Post pictures or a link to a manual if you can.

There is info on them at the Holley forum AS WELL AS where to get them other than Holley at a fraction of the price. Otherwise, I would just CAREFULLY splice them with heat shrink or good quality butt crimps. If you do any of this, stagger them in length so the splice does not form a ball/ bulge

I haven't looked in awhile, but you should be able to download documentation, free, from Holley.

Those look like metri packs, luckily they're easy to de-pin, and replacement sockets/pins are cheap (the crimping tool as well)

I would buy the correct crimper and replacement pins/sockets, but that's me.

The harnesses that Holley supply SUCK. Use the flying lead or the unterminated one shown above. The flying lead does not come with the terminals or connectors but if you have the depinning and crimping tools then just re-use the original connectors. Holley sells the terminals or you can get them from various places.

I don’t even bother with the supplied harness. Holley should give you the choice to use the flying lead in their kits because it sucks to spend another $300 on top of what you already spent.

Most of the connectors are Metripack but there are a few other less common ones as well. The main J1A and J2A connectors are Amphenol and you need the proper crimping tool for those.

RMCHRGR @ I have the depinning tools, just weighing my options. I appreciate the input and I agree with you, the supplied harness pretty much won't work for me without extensive mods.

Do you know a supplier other then Holley for the metripack?

Thanks.

CustomConnectorkits, Wire Care, eficonnection, Waytek, Del City, RaceWire USA etc.

I think I’ve bought stuff from most of those places.

My suggestion is to get the flying lead harness then figure out what terminals you’ll need and reuse the existing connectors. Holley should provide a list of the terminals they use but I have yet to find that anywhere.

You said you have the depinning tools but do you have crimpers? Some Metripack have seals.

Also, I try not to splice wires if I can avoid it.

If you find the need for more than one or two relays use the MSD solid state relay. I use one, makes things somewhat easier.

67Dart273...I was considering cutting and splicing. I'm not sure if the connectors they used are metripac, or Delphi?
Sorry don't remember. The housefire has changed a LOT of what I thought I had. As I said, if you go over to or join the Holley Forum, somewhere on there is a list of alternative supply source for the connectors---much cheaper than Holley. I actually bought some and was going to build my own. Sometimes you can find random lengths of various colored wire on ebay. I've also bought things like long (10ft, etc) printer and other multiwire computer cables from thrift stores for that purpose

rmchrgr,
I don’t have the crimper yet, should be available from connector supplier. I will get a couple connectors apart and assess what crimes are needed.

Thanks.
John

Mouser is where I get most of my terminals and connectors. I find them cheaper than most but you have to know the details of what you are looking for. Del City is where I buy my wire.

Most of the Holley stuff is Delphi GT 150 connectors. The terminals and seals you need will be dependent on the gauge of wire you are using.

I’ve made hundreds of crimps with the Iwiss 1424B. $18 on Amazon.
