Home Porting the Holley Carb!?....

10.06 to 1 comp... Solid flat tappet, 238 at .050 and .500 lift on a 108 lca. I ran a 830 annular on it that had the air horn milled, contoured and a K&N stub stack for a while and it was a little faster than my 750HP but it was terrible on fuel even when I cruised like an old lady (10 mpg vs. 15 mpg with the 750) so I sacrificed a little performance for a bunch of fuel mileage since I drive it a lot. Honestly the tricked 830 was a little too much. I think a stock 830 or 850 would have produced as much power but done it more efficiently but I got a super deal on it so I gave it a shot

I am running a 340 with a 379 stoker crank (394 ci) and it made the most power on the dyno with a 1050 Dominator. I tried running a old Holley 950 at the track and the 1050. It ran a tenth faster and gained 2 mph in the 1/8 with the 1050.

I have a 850 Demon but it came off a 500+ cubic inch Nos motor. and would need some work to get it back to a usable state for me.

I may have to take a more serious look at that carb.............but not until the ported carb gets it test.

When to the track yesterday.
NOTE: these are all 1/8 mile times

The first time down the track i hooked my vac gauge back up to check top rpm restrictions.
last time out it was 2.5 inches of vac. This time it was at 1.0 inches of vac. Less restriction = more air.

Last time out, my ET's were 8.45 to a 8.27 and 60 foots from 1.94 to a 1.89 MPH 83-84

This time out, my ET's were 8.30 to a 8.14 and 60 foots from 1.89 to a 1.84 MPH 84.4-85.8

Now to be completely fair, i didn't include my first round times. Was paying attention to my vac. gauge more then what i stalled to at the line, and if i shifted right as my shift light came on.

My first round or first time trial......60' 1.899, ET 8.366, mph was 83.0

With this new motor i have only hit a teen once (8.16). and couldn't repeat! Yesterday i got a 8.187, 8.171 and a 8.146

When out 2nt round, dialed a 8.18 cut a grate .018 light and ran a 8.171 on the brakes. He was way behind me, should have braked sooner.:angry2: The real kicker was that he ended up taking the final round.#-o
It was a grate day any ways!!!!!

Raced yesterday and backed up my numbers, carb porting worked! Would i do it again.....Yes! If i had the money to spare, would go with the Pro Form, it is a nice piece. Mine, you can tell that it was Hack by Me!:D

MPH was 84.4-85.2 ET 8.26-8.15

Now, to work on my consistency with this new motor. Starting with my return fuel system next.

I need to lean how to cut a light again! When red -014 first round. buy back in, cut a .180 light to his .050. He braked at the finish line and still took the strip while i was trying to push the gas peddle thru the floor.
