the hood on my 72 duster is separating from the reinforcement underneath . can anyone tell me what type of adhesive the factory used to bond the hood "skin" to its lower reinforcement

I used a body shop product, 2 part epoxy in a special gun, made for the purpose. Worked well but after I installed it was almost impossible to get the hood flat again for paint. I painted that hood three times and I still am not happy with it. Whatever you use, support your hood panel properly and good luck!

I use heavy bodied urethane based seam sealer. I prefer to use something that remains somewhat flexible. Not to contradict, but most panel adhesives need bare metal on both sides. It's hard to clean up in there or get any type of corrosion protection back in there.

Well if it's separated, you can always use a 3" wide roll of sand paper and use about a 8" long piece to wedge in between the metal and just move it back and forth like you're drying your back with a towel.
