Hood hinges and springs

Can I take the tension spring off the hinge on my 72 Demon and just use the hinge and a prop rod to hold up the hood?
My concern is if I take the tension spring off will the hood align still with no tension on it? Using metal hood

Yes you can do that and there is someone on this site that even sells light tension springs for fiberglass hoods. I bought a set 7 or 8 years ago for a race car. The rubber bumpers on the top rail of the fenders should help center the hood, as will a set of hood pins which are a cinch to install on a Demon hood as the witness marks for installation are on every Demon hood. send PM for more information if you need it.
