Hood strut/prop removal 65 barracuda

How do i remove these?
Im painting and need the out.

The UP position has the least amount of tension on it. If you could get a binder strap pulling toward the door that would get pressure off the hinge then release the strap. Word of CAUTION those springs are like a loaded gun and will due great bodily harm if not careful.

A buddy who’s stronger than I am took mine off and one nearly got him even being very careful. I would have just cut them as I was converting to hydraulic lifts.

I just use a long heavy duty screw driver or a pry bar to release the hood hinge. Then just ease the tension off the torsion bars.

Oh yeah. Them's mean 'n' nasty.

I don't find them all that bad. I think the trunk ones are worse.

I wrapped mine with a sleeve and used a pipe wrench to ease them out. Put them back in the same way.

When I pull my 65 Barracuda apart for paint, those things are coming off and into the scrap pile! I'll be putting gas struts on mine.

Large vice grips at the top, pull down, swing bracket out of the way, slowly releave pressure on the torsion bar till it is free. Same for the other side. Make sure you have a good grip on the vice grips....
