My local U-pick junkyard just got in a 73 Duster with a 318. I absconded with the upper control arms for my 68 barracuda. When I crawled underneath I realized it was a floor shift manual trans. The shifter was gone along with the pedals. Can anyone tell me how to identify it as a 3 or 4 speed trans? I checked the 8 1/4 and it was an open rear. I thought that may be telling as I would expect a sure grip for a 4 speed car. If it is a 4 speed, I'll try to go back and get the trans for someone who might use it, before the car gets crushed.

thanks guys...

A 4 sd will have three places on the side of the trans where the shifter linkage bolts to. A 3 sd will have two.

grab the steering column too if it's not broken at the switch area.

Simply put, a 3 speed will have 2 shift arms, a 4 speed will have 3!
Abraca-duh, somebody else beat me to it...
