How fast are big block Duster's.

Here is a buddy of mine's 1969 Big Block Dart making a 10 sec pass. It is a 440 that is .0030 over with an out of the box Lunati hydraulic cam, out of the box Eddy RPM's, Super Victor, TTi headers, and a 1050 Dominator. 4.10 gears and a 3500 converter on old 10.5 Hoosiers. The car is pretty close to stock weight.

The replies on this thread are obviously knowledgeable, so... What does a four door '75 valiant weigh, and what would it take to get a 440 into the mid elevens in that car?

I've always wondered if earlier doors can be used to lighten up a later car if the safety beams aren't really that safe.

I have a 70 Gold Duster. 440, aluminum heads, intake, water pump housing and radiator, a very heavy A-518 overdrive trans, a somewhat heavy Strange nine inch axle, steel wheels and nothing else done to lighten it, the car weighs 3330 with out me in it. Its 3500# race ready. It had a little over 500 hp with the tiny Schumacher headers on it and ran 11.50s-60s @ 115-117. I switched to big Pro Part headers and it responded by running 11.125 @121. I also have Cal Track bars and good shocks with Mickey Thompson 275-60-15 drag radial and it hooks. If you sort out the suspension and get good tires and run 3.73 to 4.10 gears you should be running mid 11s no problem.

Oh and I forgot to mention, I have full exhaust over the axle to the rear bumper. I've never run it with open headers. No truck and trailer, it gets driven to and from the track, and raced in the exact same tune it runs on the street.

Need help with 727 trans ? Who can build and help make converter choice? or what needs to be installed?'

I have new 340/416 10.5-1 RPM heads, Hughes ported, airgap with matched ports. Lunatti solid roller cam 284 duration/ 570 lift. will have Fi Tech fuel injection. 410 Dana , tubbed with slicks

So with 525 hp, 552 tq on the dyno, with 3500 stall and 3.73 gears, is it possible to be into the 11,s with this car?

yes

I make 314/450 at the wheels and in full street trim go 11.70's. 3500 stall, 727, only difference is 4.56 gears. But I'm over revving through the traps. SO I should actually have like a 4.10 or 4.30. I'd have to do the math.

What do you 60 foot etc what are you going through the top end at? Back when i had my camaro, it ran 12.26@108 with 450 hp with 410 gears and a 29" tall tire i went through at 6000. switched cam and gears to 4.56 it ran 12.00@112 and went through at 6500. The Duster i plan to shift at 6000 should go through at around 5300 with 28" tall tire.

My Duster comes in at 3600. Damn heavy. Quickest I've run is 13.10 @ 106 but need to get more timing into it and for it to hook up properly. It's spinning the 28" ET Drag Radials.

You are going to have to get as much tire under the rear as possible. Some sort of traction aid will be needed for racing at the track. Don't forget the required roll cage for you time class and the added weight. Roll bars are not light. My 14 point cage with a funny car head cage weighted about 175 lbs. plus the weight if the welding rod material. That 3:73 I think will get you high 11's-low 12's. That's a healthy street small block car......... As I see it, it's all on an individual basis The radicalness of your set up all depends on what you are willing to tolerate on the street. There is no utopia. There is only your own personal limit.

60 ft is 1.70's

114 through the traps at 6200ish.

Something's wrong if you don't do mid 11s.

I would say something is wrong if your car weighs 2770 lbs!! Are you weighing it on a scrap metal scale? That is like roller weight for a Duster.. If accurate, you sure have a leg up on the competition.

My all steel '67 fastback was 2920 with 440/727, although it had poly buckets and back seat removed. Not sure if Duster would be similar?

with a true 525 hp, I could put a pickup truck in the mid 11's in street trim.
