How many CURRENT owners of real '74 360 Duster 4 speed cars on here?

-
... the info I have states that there was 3900 and change dart sport 360’s made in 74 that would make the automatic more rare the the 4 box.

My info says they did indeed make more 4 speed Dart Sport 360's than autos, but only by a little. Total Dart Sport 360 was 2,348. Weird thing is the book has a line for Dart Sport 360 that says 3,314 total produced, so not sure what is going on, but the 2,348 listed does match the total number of autos and 4 speeds. Maybe the total was 3,314 and there were 966 built with 3 speeds?

The numbers for the Duster of the same year list total production of 277,409 which, of those there were 3,879 Duster 360s broken into 318 3 speed, 586 4 speed and 2,975 autos.

Best guess, Galen's book has has an error and there were 3,314 total Dart Sport 360's build and the break down is 966 3 speed, 1,186 4 speed and 1,162 auto. That makes sense with the numbers in his book, but it's just a guess.

Wow Dion. I think Dart Sport total production was around 150,000. Interesting they produced so many 4-speeds

Another question poped up. Who would buy a Dart Sport 360 with a three in the tree

Doubt it was a bolt action 3 speed, don't think they ever had a 3 in the tree column for a later A-Body. Not even sure they had one for the early A-Bodies. But who knows.

Best guess, the 3 speed option was used by people looking to dodge the insurance premiums of a 4 speed. Bought it with the plan to swap a 4 speed in later?

Here in the maple leaf trans meant nothing 360 V8 under hood and your age donated your insurance premium

Looks like the 3 speed was the standard offering and both the 4 speed and auto where extra cost options. This is for a Duster though so you would have to do your own research to see if the Dart Sport was the same.

And on the Dusters it was always a 3 on the floor, the bolt action shifter wasn't an option on the Duster 360.

This is all interesting info. But my car was built Jan. 26 00 hr. 1974 and it shows, mechanically sound but the body work is the *****. Runs in paint, quarter panel sloppy rockers not leaded but it’s all factory.

Was your 360 Dart built for the Canadian market or imported into Canada years later? It will have a U or a C on the 3rd most bottom line.

I have owned an LM29L Dart sport since 1975, has 53,000 on clock. Life happened parked car. Dug it out march of 2020 it sat for 39 years all original #matching, factory paint and stripes. Drove it first time in 39 years july10 2020

I’ve got one 1974 360 4-speed 8 1/4 rear end everything seems correct except for front seats, they are buckets and I think it came with bench, was blue, someone painted it yellow

@TomMoparMan has an automatic car he has owned and raced for decades. Almost all the paint is original as well as the vinyl top and interior pieces.

Have 74 dart sport 360 auto 53,000 miles original everything. Look under rear seat, under back deck, way up under dash, behind rear side panels etc. you might be lucky enough to find a build sheet which will tell you exactly what the car left the factory with. I found 3 copies

I have a vs29L car here in Minnesota. It's a project but it's complete. It's dark green with black stripe.
Automatic/console. 8 3/4 suregrip. An old friend of mine brought it up from Iowa years ago. He decided he wasn't going to restore it and let us have it.

I almost boughttened a Duster once...wait no, I did boughtten a Duster way back in 1988 a slant 6 car. the one I almost boughttened was a 318 Auto car summer of 2019...:)

Very cool!

Just to be clear, I was looking for D21 code 4 speed Dusters 360's, so can't add either one to the list.

I know you said, NOT used to have, but I did have one that was a REAL, Ralley red, white stripe & white bucket seat interior 74 360 4 speed car. I was the 3rd owner & it was always well kept. I remember seeing it go by when I was waiting for the school bus in 10th & 11th grade. Little did I know I would own it one day. I read somewhere that they only produced a couple thousand of them total, so the 4 speed cars were even rarer, I'm sure. That car was pretty fast & ran low 14s at Atco Dragway on only 1 pass, with street tires. One of my favorite cars & I wish I never sold it. It went to a guy the next town over. Sometimes I wonder where it is now.
I know I have pictures of it somewhere.

Nice! Galen's book says 586 produced with the 360 and a 4 speed, so pretty rare.

Sounds like a cool combination. Love to see some pictures of it.

I'll see if I can dig up some pictures of it.

I got some pics. of when I had this car from the early to mid-eighties, & they are pictures of pictures I had taken so not great quality. Yes, that's my 71 Road Runner in my driveway too, my first Mopar.
