i have a 440 came from motor home had the long dipstick and tube. i ordered one from summit and installed it but does not show oil on stick how many quarts does it take . i have 5 quarts in it do i need more. its a stock 187 pan
 
I Would Drain The Oil Out. Put In 5-qts, Check The Dipstick. I Would Say That You Could Get By With 5 -qts.
 
i am using the windage tray that came with engine that had a front sump pan now am using 187 could hole be slidin the dipstick to the front where its flat on the pan
 
if it came from a motor home and it still has org. pan it should be5qt.pan and one for the fillter makeing it 6total.
 
5 quarts and sounds like you need a new dipstick.If you have a new chrome dipstick clean oil is really hard to see on it. Jim
