Hey guys,
I have a 340/727 and have 2.5" of front driveshaft yoke spline going into the tail shaft of the transmission. This measurement is just spline, not overall yoke shaft length. Is this enough?

you slide the yoke all the way into the tranz till it bottoms out
measure from center of caps on yoke to center of caps on the rear axle yoke
subtract 1" from you measurement to get the correct measurement needed.

A half inch farther out is ok, but not a half farther in due to needing room to move with the suspention without binding between the rearend and the trans.

You have to consider spline engagement as well as balance.
The less spline engaged, the less likely the driveline is to stay centered.

So the answer is no. :)

x2, also have the weight of the car on the axle when you measure.

Slip yoke length and suspension designate where the slip needs to be.

The 1" out can wind up slamming the back of the trans

Spline engagement has nothing to do with centering the slip, the bushing in the tail housing performs that.
Spline engagement only needs to be the same as diameter, however since there is suspension travel the slip moves in and out as the suspension cycles, the slip moves in when launching, and can swallow up an inch.

You need to know what the GH length of the slip is and how much is in the bushing of the trans tail bushing which is usually only 1.75/2.0 inches long.

So saying you have 2.5 in, knowing the bushing starts at the end of the seal then you are supporting the slip in the bushing.
Most factory Detroit slips are heavily counter-bored for inner o-rings.
