how strong is the 8 3/4 #741 case?

The 741 has about the same size necked down where the bearing is as the 742 or 489.

I pulled a 741 case out of a 1967 US Forestry long bed pickup with a \6 and granny 4 speed that had 5.13:1 open. Had 17 inch split rims. We put a SureGrip on it and it was running strong 25 years ago when I lost touch with the guy I sold it to.

The Dodge Coronet 8 3/4 is only 1" longer than the A-body 8 3/4.
I don't think the total length is as important as the spring perches would be. Get a measurement, grind them off and move them into the correct locations and weld then back on the tubes. It may even help for tire clearance.

If you're putting a B-body rearend in an A-body your going to need to narrow it a bit and probably buy some new axles at that time.

I have a 4.56:1 rear posi punkin that I would swap for the higher gears. straight across trade. My daughter loves my Duster, but wants mileage instead of hp. I'm in southern California and for medical reasons can't leave the area. barry91765 at g male
