How do you clean the heater control levers and metal housing?

I would think that a plastic safe solvent would clean it up well.

My only concern is are there places that are lubed before assy that can not be lubed properly after cleaning.

Example...

I cleaned a window regulator in a tub of paint thinner.

A bit of a mistake due to the internals of the crank shaft. ( A anti rotate mechanism is inside)

After cleaning and lubing the contact points the crank sounded like a grinder

Either lube was removed or grit got inside.

Technically you could drill the rivets and then clean the innerards and screw it back with nylock nuts.

All I know is on a 56 Ford pickup I lubed the mechanism and could roll the windows down by pulling down in the glass. There is some type of brake mechanism inside that prevents that and the lube made it slip.

Your a dentist. Bring home some tools from work. Tooth brush & paste come to mind.

Brakleen and a soft tooth brush (worn out). Be sure to put white grease back on the nylon sliders and their metal runs.
