I bought that dart yesterday.

318 and a auto should be a 904 I would think because it doesnt have an 8 3/4 . So how do I ID the tranny for a 904 or a 727 . Also how do I ID the rear. I know its not an 8 3/4 so help me out.

The 904 pan looks like a rectangle with one corner cut off and the 727 looks almost the same but it has a rounded protrusion on one corner.

The Dana has a 10 bolt cover as well.

9 bolts irregular shape = 7 1/4
10 bolts elliptical = 8 1/4
no cover (banjo style) = 8 3/4
12 bolts hexagonal = 9 1/4
10 bolt irregular = 9 3/4 (Dana)

The 904 pan looks like this:

The 727 pan looks like this:

904 and 8 1/4 is what it looks like.

Craig will that 904 take the abuse of my 340 or do I need to look for a 727??
I am going to go with my 8 3/4 from the duster is a direct swap check me if I am wrong. Im going t to pick up anotehr 8 3/4 from AL set up and ready with 4:56 set up and the build that 383 to match how does that sound????

Get the 904 built and it will hold up to your 340. Build the 383 and another 8 3/4 for the Duster and you'll have two killer cars. So when do we start :D :D

Im working on it now. trying to figure the logistics and cost. I want to make the swap on the small blocks and the build the 383. I am trying to get the 383 done before i get out of here that way i can have Joe Help me with the engine.

Then you'll need another tranny altogether... The 904 only works with a small block, and there's two different 727's - one for a small block and one for a big block.

I believe Chads going to run the 4spd with the 383 in the Duster. The 904 is for the 340 in the Dart.

If Joe can help you get the 383 running like the 340, you'll be in great shape.

The 904 is better for the small blocks cuz its lighter and takes less power to turn it and u can make and 904 jsut as good as a 727 or better,id put my 904 aginst any 727 i love the things

thats the plan 383 and 4 speed in the duster and 340 and a 904 in the dart. Sleeper and pure evil. Joe is going to help me build it but I just need to come up with the basic plan and the figure a budget. Thinking on a stroker but we will see. I want 500+ out of this thing 600+ would be better.

500+ out of a 383 shouldn't be extremely hard. I'm sure Joe could figure out how to get you to that level without going to a stroker. Of course the extra cubes would make it easier :D :D

i am going to put it on him. I would like to keep it cheap as possible. Maybe we can roll it like it is.

Also on the small block tranny's(both 727&904's) there is two large holes and two small holes on the lower part of the tranny bell for the dust cover. The big block 727 has 4 small holes. They made a small block 727 and a big block 727. 904 small blocks only. Good pics guys
