How have y'all organized your tool boxes for home use? Pictures and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I use thin strip magnets they are 1 in wide and 10 in long can be cut to any length.
They hold all sockets in order well from 1/4 to 1/2 in drive purchased at Lowes.

First off,...If It's truly a mess,...pull alla the drawers and dump em in a pile,...then clean and line the drawers and start all over,....Yes I have done this a time or two, especially after a move from one job to another...

That is the plan for tomorrow. What order did you put your tools in? I have a 3 chest tool box and a 2 chest tool chest. The smaller one needs to hold my body tools, air tools, and tools for my welder. I have 1 day to get it all done. :banghead: So I can have a place to put my new welder.

Dedicated whole drawers for same stuff ,ex: pliers in one drawer, screw drivers in another,1/4" sockets,3/8 spockets....
I keep my fast moving tools in the most accessible drawers and the stuff I do not use so much on the bottom toward the back of a drawer...
Sorry no pics I am at home...
Woo Hoo New welder !!!

I labeled the front of the drawers with what is in them.....saves me from opening every draw when I am looking for something....

That is in the plan also Doug. I have 6 label makers

Get a board and screw it to the wall, put nails every inch or so to organize wrenches. Have a set area for sockets, ratchets, break over bars (the shop that I work at has the magnet strips and they are handy). Hammers just sit out on their own in plain sight. Air impacts and other air chucks in one area.
Pry bars if you have any and screw drivers in one area and everything for your body work in one. We don't know how much you have so it is hard to just say where to put everything, but start by making a pile and cleaning all of your space out.

i tried the label thing once, but as i accumulated new stuff , everything kept getting re-arranged and put in a new place so that came to end pretty quick..

I don't have pics , but I usually keep stock in the top chest, ie: nuts, bolts, washers, electrical stuff, small gaskets and seals, also in the top chest with the top drawer holding everthing from trany sprag springs to can openers to hood bump stops,...

Bottom chest, top drawer is for screwdrivers and pliers, second drawer is wrenches 3/4 on down, third is for hacksaws, files, razor knives, brake tools, etc,...anything I don't have a lot of but use alla time, 4th down is for "BIG" wrenches, 5th down is for hammers, chisels, drivers and seal installers, 6th is for 1/4 and 3/8 socket stuff, 7th is all 1/2 in and bigger socket stuff, bottom drawer is oddball big stuff like 1/2 drill, cheater bar's, the ultimate screwdriver, BFH's, etc,....but hey, it's all about what works for you bud...I generally put the tools I use the most at waist hieght...

This is my method... my quickest grab drawers (height wise) have my go-to stuff... my "other stuff" is in a side box, or low drawers. Sockets separated in one drawer, ratchets/extensions in another, wrenches laid out in Stand/Metric drawers. screwdrivers laid out in another.

I try to keep everything only 1 layer deep if you have the space, cause I hate digging when Im workin... except my plier drawer that thing is a disaster...
