I havent played with these cars much. But how do you remove the steering wheel and ignition key. Car is a 72 Plymouth scamp.

Getting the wheel off aint such a big deal but getting that lock cylinder out is a bit more complicated. There is a link here somewhere to a 1972 factory service manual fee download. That will be your best guide. Hope this helps

Check out the service manual as suggested. The steering wheel is easy, but describing how to remove the ignition lock cylinder is a bit complicated. You will need a cheap steering wheel puller that is available at any auto parts store.

my question was how to get the cover off the wheel to get access to that

Most pull right off, but if not there may be two screws on the back side of the spokes.
