Gotcha

Only if you’re planning on converting it to a floor shift, the shift tube has to be removed for the ER16 bearing to fit

Yeah I thought it might fit but then realized I wouldn't even be able to put the inner shaft back in with the bearing installed... oh well at least it was only $6 for the bearing

Nice solution
no messing about with brass or aluminium bushes with bearings pressed in.
see a good few done like that in the UK...
1 piece solution DIY without needing a man with a lathe..

as for safety well its a 50 year old car....
in modern terms, its not safe....... if it was, they'd still be selling them
