How would you rev the engine on a standard in a drag race? For example in lets say a Mopar drag race at events. Would you put it in Nuetrul and then drive or drive then let out clutch or how would you accomplish this?

Are you attempting the burnout box?launch?intimidate the chevy next to you?(lol!)

Off the line? Not sure what you are asking.

Hold the clutch in and bring up RPM's to what ever you can get away with without smoking them off the line then when the light comes down let out clutch and hit the gas. Little tricky if you don't have very good traction. Need to play around and see how fast you can let out of the clutch and in to the gas with out peeling out.

Actually, post your combo.(including gears, tire size gear ratio, and engine combo). The quickest way to get an accurate response.

post your combo

1. Push in your clutch.

2. Put your car in first gear.

3. Press your gas to the floor

4. Wait until the tach says 6,500 RPM

5. Quickly slide your foot off the clutch

If you don't hit a tree, mailbox or the curb, you did it right.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! That was AWESOME!!

Revision:

1. Check mirrors and cross streets for sedans with cherries on the roof, and/or little hubcaps and spotlights on the doors.

6. Find a good mechanic.

Looks like that last car actually has a Lenco system in it, not quite a true manual, but a hell of a lot better in seriously quick cars (6, or 7 second range.) uses a clutch for takeoff, but you don't need it to change gears, as it uses planetary gears and bands instead of the normal gears on a shaft style manual.

Use a line lock and 2 stage rev limiters.
Marv

Good point. You can buy some tachs with a rev limiter built in, will give you a little more peace of mind if you miss a shift or even break something.

1st rev limiter is for the launch and the 2nd is for engine limiter.
Line lock is for staging and holding car at the line so you don't roll out of the lights.
I did a post about racing a four speed on one of these boards.
