I decoded my 67 Cuda Vin# and it is a 273 2v with either 180hp or 235hp. How can I tell which. Also, What is the most likely automatic transmission in the car? If it helps, is is single exhaust with the floor console shifter and power steering. I need to decide whether to build the 273 or change to a bigger engine for street/cruising use. Would appreciate some input.
Thanks, Rat

If it was a 2V then its 180 horse. the 235 was the 4V, You should have ab A904 trans.

What are yor plans with the car besides street/crusing? Do you want to do 12s in the 1/4 mile? Is the car original? Do you want to keep it that way. There's nothing wrong with a 273 for cruising. Heck, you could even go 10s with it - given enough work.
A lot of guys with desirable cars that plan on keeping them tend to pull the original engine and stash it in a corner and then build themselves a solid 340 or 360 to "cruise" with. Or you could drop a crate in it.

I'd almost have to say it would be a 904 either way. Might be wrong.

DesertRat. Does it have a 5 as a trans code?
BH29 31 5 The 5 means torqueflite, a 6 would be H.D. I believe that the 5= 904 and 6= 727. Correct me if I'm wrong. I think you're right Scotty. Ray

904 would be correct behind a 273. Only 340 and some 360 cars got the 727

Exactly. 340's ONLY came with 727's and 360's came either way.
