I haven't been on here much anymore but I still stop in from time to time. I got a text a few months ago from Greg Aliano saying his car is for sale. Long story short I bought it. I drove it home 110 miles without incident. I am now prepping it to do some small tire racing. Next year I am going to take it to Rocky Mountain Raceweek or possibly Sickweek. Here are some photos. Greg and I have been friends for years and I was shocked to hear that he was selling. I will give it a good home and be a good caretaker. Check out my YouTube channel and subscribe for updates with it and also for Dragweek updates with the Dart.

cool, i like it! still a 340?

Michael

W2 headed 340….. it was a time capsule and is a very nice car. Greg was not a bracket racer and there really wasn’t much of a “place” for this car unless a short cruise to a local show is your gig. He is also very busy with his business and his only real venue would have been a long tow to Irwindale for an occasional grudge night. I think the car will be an excellent base for a drag week type deal! Something I should consider as much as my junk just sits here :(
Looking forward to see this ride progress!

What a gorgeous car! Well done good Sir!

That’s great to see that car with the magazine article again! That is where I got my tagline, and of all the magazine cars, that’s probably my favorite ever.

And a Superbird or Daytona sitting in the driveway along with this gorgeous Duster? That's just not right!

I sure hope you aren’t giving up on the turbo car. I love that car.

TD68…. You taking anything to the mopar deal at Sacramento at the end of September?

Wow! Man O man! I was just wondering about this cars whereabouts a few days ago sitting on the beach drinking some brews on Coronado Island LOL! I remember the article, seeing the car and speaking to Greg at the track a few times about it many years ago. Super nice guy. So cool to see it again. Congrats on the new ownership!

hey Wes…. it would be an ungodly long tow for you for one day but we’re headed to Sac at the end of Sept for the mopar day :). Greg took the car to Irwindale for its maiden hits last fall after a long hiatus and blew the 8.75 out of her before even making a full hit. He drug the car home got the rear fixed and sent the 904 back to Pro Trans for an inspection/freshen. I really think it was at that point that the pendulum started to sway towards “I’m done”. He’s a busy guy and none of us are any younger, and like myself, most work is done on the floor under the car. He did get it pieced together and made it to Vegas for MaTS this past March which I think deep down he was thinking “this is it….”. Car sold shortly afterwords.

I read that 29.5 by 10.5 is small tire limit.
I guess it's a small tire vs a pro-mod tire

Hey Jay…..thanks for the info. It was just wild to think about that car, then come on here after not being online here for many years, then read about the car LOL. I always wondered if it would be for sale, and if I knew about it I’d strongly consider buying it. Crazy!

I can relate to how Greg was obviously feeling. I even stopped and gave it some serious thought recently due to how my body feels. I haven’t raced on a track in 12 years, but had race cars I drove on the street over that period of time. Just had no interest to race again after Speedworld closed. I can’t wait to get my license again next month.

Yeah that’s not a tow I’m wanting to make, plus I think I might head up to higher ground for the Show Low 660 event. I believe it’s the last Saturday of September.

I’ve always wanted to participate at MaTS, so I’ll plan for that next year if the car is still running at that time.

Its a 372” (3.58 stroke 360 crank) small block W2 head 14:1 hydraulic roller cam.

For sure left an impression on me years ago! My buddy and I actually went to “The Valley” to see it street race in the mid 90’s after seeing the magazine.

I have been collecting, restoring, and racing Mopars for over 30 years. You amass a bunch of junk after a while

Hell NO! Right now I am in full swing prepping the Dart for Dragweek! 7 second passes or bust!!!!

Thank you! Look out for some action from this Duster. Its getting a new motor and bigger nitrous kit.

Unfortunately I wont be able to make that although it sounds like a great opportunity to go fast. I will be back east for Dragweek during that time.

It was in hiding for 15 years while Greg dealt with life. I plan exercising this thing. I would like to do some small tire grudge racing and possibly Rocky Mountain Raceweek next year.

8 second power, and an 8 3/4 does not sound like a long term recipe for success to me.....

Just like the stock block. People say the stock block wont last past 600hp well this car makes more than that on the motor and then it gets hit 250 of nitrous on top of that. The 8 3/4 has made 100’s of passes with no problem. I don't plan on changing it. Especially now that I am adding a nitrous controller to the car to soften the hit.

After getting it home I drove it to work (32 miles round trip) and it didn’t make it home. Turns out it needed some love. It had several broken rocker arms, 2 melted plugs. So we went through it and gave it the maintenance. Now it runs properly although I think the motor is really tired (which in fairness Greg told me it was). It has 16 psi of oil pressure at idle when warm and 30 psi going down the road. Not sure why its so low but I have some ideas. First I figured it had too much clearance from being worn out. I cut open the oil filter and it was very clean. Which points to the bearings being ok. Next after some discussion with Greg it turns out he didnt have the lifter bores bushed and it has a hydraulic roller cam. Mopars leak a ton with this set up and will kill oil pressure. Also it might have a defective pressure relief in the oil pump. I have seen this before and honestly it is behaving exactly like that. So the plan is to remove the pan and replace the oil pump. Then remove the intake and prime the oil pump while rotating the motor by hand and observe the leakage past the lifters. If its bad then I will replace the hydraulic lifters with solid offset rollers from my old turbo motor to solve that issue. If that works and the oil pressure is better then we head and out and run it.

“The valley” that was a long haul in the 90’s from Orange Co.

Sounds like a lot of 90’s tech in that thing. ….Go figure it was built then.
