I was super surprised how much the engine is offset from the center line.

Do you think this will help at the track? I think I'll pull the grommets out of the hood so the air has less objects to move around to get to the carb.

Nah, not a problem if your attentive and throw a cover on it if the hoods up. Not racing in a dust bowl. I've very rarely seen a car run a filter at the track.
 
I want to build one for the Duster. But I want it to go about 2 inches out from my air filter. Round to match it. Then have it roll up to about 2 inches
from the hood and use a flat weather strip. Hope to get it to bolt to the bottom of the air cleaner base. keep your fingers crossed for me.

Keep us posted on that I have been contemplating the same thing.
 
Looks good.I have to do something similar,have to Hemi scoop installed.
