Anyone else hate dealing with people when selling stuff on craigslist ? Ive got a ton of stuff listed.

I have one guy that keeps emailing me about my truck. He came and looked at it 2 weeks ago for $14500. He said everything hes looked at has been over priced ( I think its more like hes cheap) Said he would get back to me by the end of the week. He emails me a few days ago and asks for pictures of . I said sure but it doesnt look any different then it did when he looked at it.

He shoots me back an email offering me $10,000. Thats $4500 under my asking price. I told him $11,000 and its his. He says ok but your going to have to make 2 more months worth of payments so I may as well take his offer.

I told him the truck will be gone by Jan 1st weather or not he buys it and it will only cost me $160 in payments at the most.

Jack *** #2 emails me about my father in laws Civic Im selling. Wants my number to ask a few question. No problem. 3 days later no call. He emials me to tell me Im over priced. I told him it was best offer and he hasnt seen it yet and sent him a link to yahoo autos with the same car ranging in price from $4500 to $8500. My price $5500 OBO.

Jack *** #3 emails me about an engine hoist. After about 5 emails he says he will be buy to pick it up this afternoon at our agreed price if $75. Then comes email #6, Oh I found one at pep boys brand new for $150 after rebate.
Thats great but its twice as much and theres no Pep Boys in the area.

Everyone wants everything for free. :angry7:

A good answer to "Will you take less than you're asking?" is "Well, gosh, I donno…will you pay more than I'm asking?".

If you've got a truck advertised for $14,500 and somebody comes and offers $10,000, and they don't jump on your counteroffer of $11,000, a good response is "OK, how 'bout $19,000?".

If somebody says "Your car's priced too high, I found two of the same car for $XXXX", a good answer is "OK…buy one of them!".

:)

Jeez, what a bummer Adam. I've been lucky with the very few things I've sold on CL. A couple lawnmowers I fixed up and my old smashed 4Runner.

Jack *** #4 just emailed me about a wanted add for a place to live near were I'll be working. Tells me he cant give me any info till I give him my SS# , Name and date of birth. Yeah, I'll send that right out dip ****.

My favorite is "whats your best price" Answer, Twice what I am asking would be best.

I am finding just the opposite

I don't need to sell anything to buy it, don't have to go to the Bank for a loan, don't need permission from the wife etc etc.

I find a car that I am interested in and contact a seller on Craigslist via email

and they don't get back to me...what gives???

Don't they want to sell? Did they change their mind? At least they could

respond...I dunno. Very frustrating for the serious buyers.

I adverised my snowmobile for sale at $2500 which there selling for $4000.I wanted a quick sale.
First guy comes and says he,ll take it.No deposit,nextday can,t get money.Grr.
Second response..I have $1700 and will pick it up tomorow.Thats $800 below my asking price.Duh!Delete!
Third guy comes and looks at it and offers $2000,not.We settled on $2300.It,s gone.

As you said, everybody wants things for free.I guess they figure your hurting for cash and can lowball big time, but that,s not always the case.

Dealing with the morons is an unfortunate part of the deal. I don't care if I am selling at Stafford Springs swap meet or Indy or Detroit in the winter, it's always the same thing. The part I don't understand is if you don't like a price, simply walk away, I certainly do, there is nothing to gain by proving you are a jack-***. I guess some people just have to prove their idiocy. My favorite was a young kid at Indy who walked up to my booth with his ugly girlfriend and proceeded to explain to her how I was totally wrong in advertising said 727 as a big block when in fact it was a small block, I guess it didn't matter to this genius that we had just removed it from our max wedge car. I proceeded to point out to the idiot the obvious case difference between big and small block transmissions, the heck of it is that he had his shop shirt on from his employer who specializes in Mopar transmissions.

I have a guy that flags all my Honda stuff for sale because I am asking 1/2 of what he is.

The kicker is, he emails me about the parts, then tells me he can buy them for X amount on ebay, and I am way over priced.

He lives about a hour from me, so out of boredom, I list some pretty rare Honda stuff for real cheap.

Low and behold, he emails me, says I am way over priced, so I tell him to make me an offer. The offer is ridiculously low, almost giving it away. But I accept, but he has to pick it up.

He has no problem, as he's pretty much going to triple his money. I give him all the details, and my cell number, but I sent him to a homeless shelter!

Needless to say he left some pretty funny voice mails :D

I'm beginning to think that Craigslist is has more scammers/BS'rs/and would be thiefs than it has legit people interested in the things you have to sell. With crime the way it is, I almost hesitate to have someone who I don't know from dirt, come by my house to pick something up. And all the while be casing my place out for a future smash and grab.

I had one guy try the old trick of wanting to pay more for the item than I had asked for it and he also never even wanted to come by and look at it. He wanted a cell number, and address for the truck "he" would send to make the pick up of the part and he wanted my email address too. This had crook written all over it. When I refused to give out the "personal" stuff which had nothing to do with the sale, I never heard from him again! Go Figure!

You never really know who you are dealing with most of the time so you have to go with your gut instincts some of the time.

Valiant422, I like you already. :-D

Selling the surviving stash has been a regular thing since Hurricane Katrina (tough to hurt car parts so that was about the only things saved). Billy prefers racingjunk.com. I'm turning the keyboard over to the big guy.

Here's a few stories.

Hell I have had some real winners one azzhole wanted to trade me a friggin cessna. he said it ran however it had been a while since it had been flown... 15 years to be exact. It would have cost me over 25 k to bring it up to today's safety standards.. least thats what the airline mechanic there told me.

I have had several azzclowns also say I will be there on saturday yet they never show up and you never hear from them again and when you call them you can never get them or they string you along for a month or two. then they offer you alot less than your asking price.

Dont get me started on some of the strange trades.. hey would you take my wife the dog and my 1st born for the car?

my reply: I asked does she have Huge Boobs, long legs and a nice butt, doesnt bioch, likes to work on cars and can cook like a chef? (I got the cuda chick this way). Can the dog fetch me tools or a beer from the fridge? will the kid be smarter than its father cause you are a dumazz who cant read the ad which specifically states what I will trade for. and its not your wife, dog, kids, 4-wheelers, golfcarts, ski boats, pontoon boat or a dune buggy.
Rant over whew I'm tired.

Where's the dayum beer-fetchin dog when you need one???????

Trade, Yeah I had a few good ones come my way.

One guy wanted to trade me a backhoe for my truck. He said it was worth $20,000. I told him sell it, By my truck and pocket $7000 cause I would look pretty stupid driving a backhoe to work.

Another guy wanted to trade me his "custom" 2002 escalade with flat black paint for my truck. I told him I didnt want his shitty primed truck but thanks anyways.

Now that's just mean Valiant, can I use that next time.:toothy10:

I sold one of my cars (a 10 ten year old Toyota Camry) cheap because I was starting a new business and I needed the cash quickly..The couple who finally bought it had to borrow from both families and the bank and they were still short..heck, I gave it to them.

A funny story..a man came around to look at my vaux..he drove it and loved it..said he would buy but the wifey had to look at it..well they did come..I'd say she was well over 200 pounds..we had to push on her to get the door closed..siad he would buy..cakll me the next day..never hear from him again..I knew it wasn't a sail when she oozed out of their mustang..poor car..

I am now at the point in my life when someone says I am too high or I can get it elseware, I say "go for it" "or go buy it" and walk away..I am too old and tired to deal with idiots..

I am finding there are more idiots on craigs list or Kijiji than
it is worth..

On the flip side, I am finding that there is NOCUSTOMER SERVICE in most stores today and why do you get jerked around when you buy something and the seller keeps holding on to it..

Buying from our fellow FABO members has been GREAT !!!

rant over

Thanks

PS - where is all the snow ???

I bought an engine from an :bootysha: on eBay. Sent the money with PayPal within one day of the auction. After 15 months worth of hearing every kind of lie and excuse you can imagine (plus a threat or two) from him, he sent my money back plus $50. I feel lucky I got it. I'm not naming names (yet), but he's a member on FABO. He's only got 3 posts, all over a year ago. If I see him trying to sell anything on here you can be sure I'll let you all know.

It can be frustrating , there are a lot of keyboard shoppers who just waste your time with no intention of buying. I had a 340 For Sale last year it wasn`t complete block, crank, pistons and a few other things. I had a guy drive 4-5 hours from upstate NY to look at it, I wanted $400- $500 for everything, he told me " I can buy a block in Ohio for $200" and he offered me $200 for mine , I told him No and you better drive to Ohio and buy the other one, he got in his car and left for his 4-5 hour ride home. I sold everything the next week for $500. I have done good the last couple of weeks selling a few items, you have to be patient and try and weed out the ones that want something for nothing. I definetly stay away from Ebay since they charged me $125 to sell a $500 car.

I hear this rant all the time from my brother, who hasn't had any luck selling parts, either on moparts or even here on FABO. Many's the time he has responded to a post either from someone looking to buy or looking to sell, only to be snubbed or just completely blown off. Many times the OP will not respond, or in some cases will post a follow up "still looking" after my bro has sent him a P.M stating the size, origin, and price for the part including shipping, only to receive no response at all. For example, I remember him mentioning about someone looking for a driveshaft for a 4 speed Duster right here on FABO, sent him the dimensions, pictures, price including shipping ($40.00), everything. About 2 weeks later the OP posted a "still looking" and then another post saying he had bought one from another member for more $$$ ($75.00). He is so fed up that he will not even respond or post any items for sale here anymore. Too bad too, because we are in the business of selling items together, and our prices are always fair and our items are exactly as stated and are correctly identified. I must be a little more patient than he is, but it happens to me a lot here also. But hey, if someone doesn't want my stuff for their projects at a decent price, eventually someone will. OK, rant over. Billy, see if that dog can carry 2 beers at a time!!! Geof

I seen an ad on kijiji for some rallye wheels a guy had for sale this spring. His ad said that he thought they were somplete with caps and trim rings. I e-mailed him and asked what they were off of and what size were they? He responded that they came off his '67 fury and he thought they were 15''. I talked to him on the phone and he lived 60 miles from here, but he was coming into town and could deliver them. I said o.k. and took a chance. He showed up on time and they were 15 by 6 1/2 rallyes complete. The price? I didn't dicker with the $150 he was asking! (delivered) Usually it's a royal pain in the drain selling and even buying stuff. Sometimes though, i am surprized.

thats funny does the backhoe have a horn

I'm for sure with you on that one also Adam, I hate selling stuff also, simply because I hate dealing with some people.

One of the reasons I have many parts here.
Honestly I give people a great deal and the haggle about it...I get to a point I'd sell it cheaper or give it away to someone else instead.
And I have done this numerous times and will continue to do so...So buyers be aware "You snooze, You loose".
