I Love my Wife (or Husband)

-
She was 19,i was 25.I worked with her sister, and ended up at the parents house one weekend. The first year or two is a blur, nearly thirty years ago. Two kids, moved around the area 10 times at least. It had its ups and downs, lots of downs.
Dont know how we got through it, but the last ten years have been 10 times better than the first 20. I think a lot of the hard times was just never really having a home, that we knew would be ours forever. Being broke does that. We worked hard to give our kids what they needed, now they dont need anything, all grown up, we focus on each other.
Communication, Trust and Respect.

Okay here goes, I had been through two failed marriages had three children that were almost grown but I always looked young for my age and like to hang out in the kind of bars with Harleys up front and live music on stage I was going through another rough stage in my life of course and had just accepted a job in Minnesota, I lived in Oregon, so I was scrambling to put my things in storage and get ready to move on. I went out on Saturday night to my local watering hole it was closing time when in walked what I thought was a minor I was friends of the owner and thought to myself someone better check her ID. A few minutes later I heard a voice I know you , I look to the right I look to the left I saw no one then I looked directly down and at my chin stood at 4 foot 10 blonde that I had met a few days previous at a title loan store where I was attempting to get a loan to have money for my new job. We only had a few days to spend together before I left my job was with a railroad contractor on a rail grinder and as I worked across the United States she would call me every night. We fell in love over the phone. Her past was as fast as mine no one ever gave us a chance in hell of making it! It's been 11 years and we're doing great. Well we've had our problems but we are in love deeply and it just getting better all with time . What makes it work? She is my queen, and I am her man, and she treats me like one. And the Lord Jesus Christ!

I was dating someone on and off for about 9 years. We both had our issues, and we worked hard at resolving them, grew apart at times, but always seemed to find our way back to each other. Our families both believed we would eventually marry and live happily ever after, etc.
We were getting our careers started finally, I had nearly completed my CDL training after deciding I did not want to pull wrenches for the rest of my life, and she was 1 year from her degree in speech pathology. One very cold winter night she was cleaning snow and ice from her car to make a run to the store for cigarettes when the person who lived next door to her in the apartment block came at her with a pistol and shot her 5 times at close range. The coroner's report made it clear that she was dead in a matter of seconds. I went into a very dark place for several years, all I did was drink and work, went back into mechanics because I didn't trust myself to be on the road.
Fast forward about 6 years, and I met someone who was a bit offbeat, and we hit it off immediately. We were married 2 years later, but the relationship went bad when she started to cheat. I was working nights, had little choice as I was in a new career, starting at the bottom, she didn't like being alone. I sent her packing when I found out, and after 2 or 3 days realized that I was far better off without her, and that there had been nothing between us for probably 2 years by then.
About 3 months after I kicked her to the curb, I met a wonderful woman who is smart, funny, drop dead gorgeous, likes cars, loves dogs, and somehow found me attractive. That was almost 15 years ago now, and while we have had our share of disagreements, there is no one else I can imagine wanting to spend whatever time I have left with.

Getting close to 28 years, and my sweetheart loves old cars and supports my hobby. Here she is enjoying a live stream, loving my youtube channel and supporting Drag Truck :)

I met my wife at foodlion I was 17 she was 16 I had been working there almost 2 years and she was a new hire in the training room I was on my way to the mop room to get a mop and bucket for a spill when I saw her and had to say stop and say hi! We chatted for a minute and I had to get back to work. We talked a little at work for about a month and my buddy said why don't you just ask her out. I was to nervous so he set us up. I was meeting him at his house one Friday to play pool and drink some cold drinks and he invited her. We ended up dating after that night. We really hit it off and was always together. 3 years later to the day (oct 25) we got married and 15 years later we are still married. We have been together a total of 18 years over half my life now! Its not always been easy but the ones that are worth it usually aren't!

Not trying to hijack or derail his beautiful thread in anyway. But whats some of the best, solid advice you can give me when it comes to making a marriage work and most importantly last?

If at all possible, find yourself an orphan
